How do you spell stupid?

The man was a sweet man who used to work at the base over in Indian Head. It is very sad the addiction didn't end when he began having health problems but I've heard from drug addicts themselves that quitting drugs was easier than quitting smoking. This incident isn't the 1st and won't be the last.

If they don't pass "death with dignity" here in Maryland and I ever get to the point where I'm sick enough, I hope I am on oxygen so I can roll my oxygen tank out to the shed, sit on the gas can and smoke a cigar.

Thank you. It is a sad story. I quit smoking many years ago. And, as far as what I read here, Gilligan doesn't smoke. So, as far as this thread Gil and I are not stupid, as according to Sal. Sal's post is the dumbest I have seen from him yet, not to mention disrespectful to the deceased. And, Mr. Painter paid the ultimate price for his addiction. Yes, it was stupid, but we all have our duh moments when anything can happen in an instant. I totally understand the addiction of cigs, and am still tempted to this day.

Not to take away from this person or create a pissing contest, but I thought we were taught in basic chemistry that oxygen on it's own is not flammable. Oxygen is an oxidizer and allows combustible material to burn more rapidly and more efficiently. The reason you don't use flammable material in the presence of O2 is because things that can burn will burn much more intensely.

Oxygen is also not flammable, but it is a high-energy gas that very readily oxidizes other materials. For something to burn, the reaction requires a fuel (the thing that burns) and an oxidizer like oxygen. Without the fuel, though, no combustion will take place no matter how high the concentration of oxygen is.

Like hair and clothing.

In the Navy we were taught that if you use an EEBD never smoke afterward. Your hair can be saturated with oxygen, so when you light up you REALLY light up.

How does my post make me a drama queen? Because you say so? Take your post and your groupie, too, and go back under your bridge!

You will eventually get bored and get off my butt! As for now, I am your star member for your bashfest! :diva: I am the last of the Mohicans as far as bashing. I don't see that much anymore. You didn't get rid of me. Sorry, I am here to stay as long as I wish to be here. Y'all just don't get decency. Not my problem. Carry on!

A friend of mine was at the hospital visiting her brother years ago and saw some guy smoking through the hole in his throat from his laryngectomy. She hasn't smoked since.

For us reformed smokers, we should be glad that it didn't do us in. It still could, depending on how long we smoked. I am just sad about the lack of empathy and down right meaness on this thread. Oh, well. That is just me.

We could wake up tomorrow to our last day. One never knows.

I do know that my mom worried for years that she would die from smoking, and us kids were always on her about it. She died from Alzheimer's and forgot she smoked. How weird is that?

She smoked like a half pack of Virginia Slims a day, if that. And she collaborated on writing country songs, childrens books and poems, plus was the best at solving crossword puzzles, ever! Not to mention a top real estate agent in NOLA in her day, and was part of making the water front what it is today. Go figure.

Oh look, it's our resident shame scold.

Normally this guy would get a Darwin Award. We're only being civilized about it because he's a local man.
