How long should you wait for a doctor?

While I personally believe that most of the medical profession is a scam (save the emergency medical attention types) that exists solely to set its hooks into you to bleed you dry I wonder if these appointment waits are worth the ire. By that I wonder how long you had to wait from initial contact to actually getting in for an appointment. Seems to me that it is days, weeks, or months before you get an appointment. If you can wait that out, why do minutes to hours matter?
I got the exact date I was looking for and received several calls prior to that date stating they had cancellations did I want to come in sooner. I'm positive rescheduling was an option.

If you're talking about Dr. Lennen in Leonardtown, I've got dibs on him. Unfortunately, he moved to Virginia - and if it wasn't four or five hours away, I'd be going there for an appointment. This guy took over for him I think.

Hey if your guy is good, could you let me know who? I need the gel shots badly - it's going to be probably a year before I'm ready for surgery. How long did it take you to recuperate?
Emmanuel Atiemo. It took me about a year to fully recover. I had two years between knees but I've known people who had the second one done in a few months.

That's the other guy in the same office and not the one I saw. I left a review online for the doctor I "saw" and MEDSTAR has asked me to give them a call regarding my complaint. Although....I called when I got home that day and they didn't bother to call back. I'll have to see what they say and gauge how I feel about going back to the same office. One year huh? Ouch.

Although not local, my BIL must be a sucker for punishment. Due to his work schedule, he had both knees done at the same time.

Concerning wait times: why is it when I have the first appointment of the day the doc is almost always late?

Now I have been seeing the oral surgeon for the past 3+ years still trying to fully recover from cancer/radiation. Fortunately or unfortunately, my doc happens to be the head of the department and always gets pulled to consult/supervise/double-check the residents so he tends to get sidetracked. I get a doc that gives me the time I need, but it sometimes takes a while for him to get in the room. I've just accepted this as a fact of having him as my doc.

To me the most important thing about recovery is the PT. Do what they tell you to do and don't just do it when you go to see them. Do it at home as well.

We stumbled into Calvert Internal Medicine Group on accident. We had moved from Piney Point to the Ranch Estates back in 2005, and were looking for a doctor. Someone recommended a primary to my wife. We went, and were happy enough with the practice. I'm still going to them 20 years later.

My primary is kind of a dick with communication issues and no sense of humor, but so far, he's been competent enough, so I just shine it on.
My current family dr is at CIMG and I like Dr Moody just fine. From experience, I always take a book in case there is a long wait time and there never is. I recently had a cardiology appt there and didn't even sit in the waiting room; I was taken right back and seen immediately. I always compliment them on their efficiency. My last doctor always made me wait for an hour or more. And as someone else posted, I often asked for the 1st appt of the day and she was always late. Always!

Waiting to get an appointment is not eating up my valuable time. Waiting hours in a doctor's office is.

My current GP was independent until January, now part of CIMG but he kept his office/staff in Huntingtown. I left CIMG 20 years ago because of the rude staff, long waiting room time and short visits by the doc.

My SO refuses to go to most doctors in the local area. Too many bad experiences, rude physicians, and LONG wait times to be seen. Its up the road constantly to DC, Clinton, sometimes Annapolis, etc. to be seen. Have had quality care and good experiences since making that decision. Lots of extra driving but well worth it. Only see one doctor down this way and that is because she is new and motivated.

I've only been going there for a few years but have not encountered any rudeness nor long wait times. Unfortunately, I pay a lot out of pocket because they are not a part of the Medicare program.

Southern MD is also very underserved and specialists are very hard to come by so they may not turn people away. GPs on the other hand do have a reputation for not accepting new patients around here.
You can thank MedStar for that. They're very anti-competition by incorporating doctors offices under them and then not allowing doctors to go independent in the area until a certain amount of time has passed, making them inevitably move to other places to open up their own practices.
