How very Democrat of them

While it would be nice this has Democrat written all over it. It also fails to address what happens to all the tools with a current system.

Wasn't actually posted to the site until April 2nd.....

It would be terribly convenient if things used the same power source so you can swap them out and don't have to have special batteries for this and special batteries for that. While they're at it they can do that for electronics as well. Ooh, and lightbulbs!

I'm not a fan of proprietary things. That's why I don't use Apple products - they're a pain in the ass.

And that is why I use Apple products, they work and fit together. I still have my first Apple llGS Desk Top- bought in 1987- stored in the attic.

Is this an April Fools joke?
Anyway I have always said all car manufacturers should be forced to make their cars use the same oil filter.
All oil filters are basically the same. A piece of tin with some paper in it..
Why do we need 25 0r 30 different kinds of filters?

Post 3 answered your first question.

As for your second question, all oil filters are indeed all the same. All hammers are also all the same, a striking surface and a handle. As are drill bits, a cutting surface and a shaft.

My 1250cc motorcycle engine needs to run far less oil through than my old 6.1 liter Dodge did. And has far less space to package that filter into. The viscosity of the oil needed to support cold start and high temp high speed operations define pump requirements. Flow rates to ensure enough oil gets to the places its needed and particulate allowances help set requirements for exactly what kind of paper will all that flow through that paper at those viscosities. The pressures needed to move that oil through that filter paper define how much tin you need to maintain rigidity under high pressure loads.

And of course cost. Tin thicker than you need costs a 1/4 penny more. But it also requires more robust tooling to cut and form. increasing the cost.

Not picking on oil filters, but why are there 100's of different tires / spark plugs for cars?

I integrated Macs into our corporate net, liked it so much that I switch to a Performa (low cost Mac II). Family gave me the stink-eye, still on PCs. Eventually had to move back to a PC for some compatibility issues, and of course the family all moved to MAC/Apple, where they are still today while I'm on a PC. Still get the stink-eye for being different.

My son has his own Apple consulting business here in town. As an old guy I get things mixed up, network wise, from time to time. He just logs in remote, and cleans up my mistakes.... :)

I've got a desktop Apple of some flavor in my attic, next to a 386 server that was used in a local insurance company's office that my brother helped upgrade in the later 80s or early 90s.

My dad wanted a Franklin so bad he could taste it. I have no idea what he would have done with it. He bought us kids a Commodore 64 with an extended package and the tape drive. He also bought an SAT prep program for us. I would start the load in the tape drive and wait what seemed like forever for it to stop loading. I never actually got it to work. He also bought us a Pong game with four games (2 large paddles, 2 small paddles, four large paddles, and four small paddles), but we were only allowed to use it on the little 13 inch black and white TV. He didn't want the big color TV to be scratched by the game. LOL No way would a child believe that now.
