Hows' The Traffic?

On a more basic level, why do you NEED to go off base at lunch time. There is no way you can do launch within the alloted 30 minutes. And don't feed me that crap that you combine the AM and PM 15 minute coffee break with the lunch to get an hour. I know there is limited choices for lunch on the base, but bring you own. That's what I did for years.

Here's my problem with you post
NEED, that requires justification, I'm sure people have 101 reasons for what they do with their lunch break.
But you are correct, there is no way that anyone can leave the base and get back in 30 minutes. The hour lunch is not an option (since there isn't enough time in the defined work day to make it up).
Since when do we get 15 minute breaks? I'm lucky if I get 10 minutes to go to the microwave and bathroom. as is.

So in the words of our fearless leaders, "this should hurt". Here's hoping it hurts all those people who earn a significant portion of their income from employees on their lunch break.

Besides, I can no longer afford to eat out or the gas.

Well it should hurt unless you are JSF and somebody doesn't want to lose a star.

Yes I'm an MPD, But who's
I may be misunderstanding your gripe; but there are THREE right turn lanes going out Gate 1. O.I.C, you mean, trying to turn right from the FOURTH lane to the left, that's NOT a turn lane. Amirite?

If you are coming up Cudihay Rd. by the pool, the right hand turn lane is now backed up to the bottom of the hill by hangar 301. People drive up the left lane and try to turn right to go out the gate. Of course then there's the people coming down the hill from the Exchange & Commisary who can't seem to stay in their lane when turning left to go out gate 1, not letting those waiting to make right turn on red from the other side of the intersection make their turn.

So it is no longer a lunch break, but to take care of other business. This lunch traffic issue was a problem prior to the furlough so don't try to blame it on that. Geez, you haven't even had a furlough day yet.

Perhaps you can take care of your other business than lunch on your furlough day.

Just sayin, people have a right to leave, who's to judge.
Personally my ass is glued to my chair because we have compressed 5 days into 4 by 8 hour days.

And yes, I've had a furlough day.

I also agree that there is no way you can leave and get back on base in 30 minutes. Plus I never heard of this break thing.

My only comment was in using the word "NEED". Just pointing out that what you define as need, someone else may not. Why do you care, do you have NEED to be off base during a lunch break?

They do have the right of way. I'm guilty of this on occasion, especially when I know I need to get into the right lane & there's heavy traffic leaving the base.

Really? Steny would **** up a one car funeral.

Based on the news today, Chuckie Haigel,, who I'm sure is a good friend of Steny, has promised more cuts next year, more furloughs.

Last week he was talking about cutting the brass - that means deactivation.

3 more years of this administration.

We won't survive.

Maybe they need to paint the little white lines like leaving WallyWorld or Chancellor's Run Rd. so people can stay in the proper lane. You should have plenty of time to switch lanes before you get to 235

Those break rules are a joke, I have seen some folks go to a place off base, and sit and have lunch, and be there 45 minutes just eating. I have also found 2nd shift employees at the drill hall at 7pm playing basket ball, on thier "lunch break" or at WalMart shopping! When you go to the site managers and bring it up, you get the "Airman salute"

I've got a better one. Three people take a lunch break almost every Thursday; sometimes Wednesday; leaving at 1100. They're back in their office down the hall by Noon; then turn on the 12 o'clock news and take a post-lunch nap til 12:30/12:45. "But they get in at 6 a.m." is the rationale.

I was thinking about this. In my former job they made use take BS NIOSH training every year and one of the things that NIOSH says is you can not eat at your work location if there has ever been soldering done there. Now there is no designated eating area, nor anywhere to eat so because the employer did not provide a safe and sanitary location to eat for everyone then they have every right to in a safe and sanitary location according to NIOSH.

Nope. There is a breakroom available, seats about 75 people, a/c, TV, vending machines.

I think the amount of workplaces with real breakrooms is pretty small, given the total amount of work-spaces on base.

No breakroom. I eat at my desk almost everyday.

Ditto - refridgerator is the ice pack I put in my lunch bag.
(since all personal appliances like fans, refridgerators etc are now banned).

Either I bring something dry that does not need to be kept cold or I use the ice pack.

Never had time for lunch before, just now it's no longer even personal time.
We have stuff scheduled right on thru.

We have a fridge, microwave and toaster oven. So we can pretty much have what we want for lunch.
