HP Laptop Network Issues

By any chance, do your laptops have a built-in Wireless WAN (1x/EVDO, as opposed to WiFi) ? If you do, and you're not using it, turn it off in the hardware.

I'll look.

o hell...

this doesn't make me feel any better...

Big Problems with Wireless in HP Pavilion Notebooks » PC Mechanic

argh, well I REALLY REALLY don't want to have to replace the whole dam computer. I'm going to try to get this worked out...But I ALSO would rather upgrade to an even better computer than go in and change out the motherboard. Guess it would be a good learning experience in terms of laptop upgrades/modification...

Good find, sounds exactly right. I have XP and they danced me through all those steps too. I'm out of warranty now and pissed at HP. Even if they sent me a new motherboard or computer at this point I still wouldn't buy another one.

onthe phone with he helpdesk now...ready to shoot myself :lmao:...all I should have said is "i've read everything, I need a box sent o me, my computer sent to you and fixed for free...i'm having the issue with the wireless adapter notbeing recognised...bye...:lmao:"

anyway, here is a site I got from an email in regards to a "critical bios update" which is that bios update that was mentioned that "MIGHT" fix the issue, but didn't...

o wow, the bastard is trying to make me update my driver when I just told him I have the latest one...

Ihate protocol...:lmao:

ok...so here is that site I just mentioned... Hewlett Packard Technical Support - select a country or region

yeah....so...still on thephone...

OK, going to post this cuz i gotta reboot

apparently I didn't have to reboot...GOD i hate this protocol :bs: though...its like..i'm being walked through like i'm retarded and all I need is for him to say...i'm sending you a box, send us your computer, we'll replace the hardware...

blah...:lmao:

yes, i'm venting at this point...my laptop will probably die before I get finished with this dam phone call.

12:34...

I'm still on the phone...

i'm at the point where I want to go through the phone and strangle this dam indian on the other side. even their dam hold music has a dam error in it...the ####ing woman coughs while talking...wth.

about goddam time.

he is finally sending me the dam box I wanted..those greedy bastards get to fix my problem...let THEM replace the dam hardware.

I even explained to him my EXACT issue halfway through...to a T on what it says on the website about my issue and the ass still kept going on with protocol...grr :lmao: I had to sit here for an extra half hour because obviously they HAVE to do it...but it still irritates the hell out of me...we are now at the point where I said we should be half an hour ago lol.

but yeah, check that site DR if you want them to maybe repair it for free...as far as I can tell you should be covered...

ok, i'm off to bed now. I have a superior hate for this company than I did before...at least nobody should really be at work tomorrow...I really don't mind working on the main CWS friday for that reason...nobody to bug me

night all.

but gateway is terrible.

:yeahthat:

they sort of NEED to have that customer service because their computers have so many issues :yay:

:lmao:

If i'm going to have a desktop, i'll build it myself. If I'm going to have a laptop, well...i'm not sure what to go with anymore because I thought this HP was going to be decent...but I also didn't have much money back when I bought it for MANY options...limitations are how you end up with a crap computer :lmao:

Our corporation just switched from IBM to HP. We have had very few problems considering the number of these that we deploy daily, but we also buy the better models, not the variant you get in the retail stores. The problems that keep cropping up are always related to BIOS device issues, like not recovering correctly after sleep mode, or docking/undocking situations. As a corporate work device, both the users and the techs are pretty happy. Personally, I prefer the IBMs...

:yeahthat:Love my IBM laptop, I can't stand using a touch pad on a laptop and like the IBM trackpoint or what ever they call it.

Thinking about upgrading my desktop though, I was considering a Gateway. What kind of problems are people having? Have a Dell now (never again, I'm on the 3rd hard drive) Maybe I'll just upgrade to another IBM laptop. Suggestions anyone? I use my desktop for photography work, word processing and spreadsheets, no internet, no games

If you do any major photography work, gateway is basically out of the question. As far as I know, they are horrible when it comes to graphic processing. I don't even know off hand what kind of graphics card they mainly use...I'll actually look that up but i'm thinking you'll definitely be best off with IBM because Dell sux for sure too (as you found out :lmao: basically most of those "family friendly" type computer companies suck. the ones that would gear towards selling to families...and you can tell the ones that do that by their commercials usually...dell and gateway and compaq...o dear god don't get a compaq...is that company even still around? I haven't looked for a computer in awhile lol)

HMMMM

well i'm looking it up now and off hand, the gateway has decent specs...so maybe its just a long-standing dislike for them that is driving me away....but can anyone else give any good advice on how well these computers hold up or whether the specs are as good as they look or is there one of those things that is holding back the higher performance accessories and thus you aren't really getting as good of a product as you expect.

well from what I can tell, it is a decent graphics card. It would probably suit well for your purposes, but keep in mind that it doesn't have a fan. If you do any long-term graphics processing then you are just asking to have problems with it.

now onto the processor...

I was actually pleasantly surprised here as well...

The computer i'm looking at has a quad core processor. This helps a decent amount with photo editing and the like. It is a good processor for your application, but if you don't do intense editing or anything then you probably won't notice TOO much of a difference from a cheaper computer.

bear in mind, the computer i'm looking at is about $1500, and is a desktop. I'm not sure exactly what you're planning on spending.

this is the computer I was looking at from gateway..

The gateways I've been looking at have NVIDIA GeForce graphics cards. I'm not real big into graphics specs but the NVIDIA seems to be a popular choice for gamers. Whatever I get, the first thing I'll do though is get rid of Vista and load XP. That IBM laptop I've been looking at is looking better and better. Just add a mouse and use my 19" flat display.

About the same one I've been looking at. Don't need the TV tuner though. Also uncheck the Vista migration suite, Office and 3 year service contract and the price is just over $1000

I know, I saw that...just wasn't sure what all you wanted so I didn't want to lowball you on the one I was looking at :lmao: I personally would never get a 3year warranty...nor the vista migration suite...though I might pay for the new version of office if I didn't have it.

what laptop are you looking at maybe getting? I'm curious now how it compares because that desktop doesn't look so bad, but for 1k you really SHOULD get a decent desktop (but if you only spend 1k on a laptop then it can really be hit or miss...)

Before you buy, make sure XP hardware drivers are available for that PC. If they don't advertise that PC with an XP option at sales time, check the support area for drivers. They might not have them available. Ran into that a few times, specifically with Dell.

yeah, now that you mention it, a lot of people with the preloaded vista on the HP pavilions had issues getting XP drivers when they tried to roll back to XP because some of the hardware was not exactly compatible with XP

Didn't feel like reading through your entire thread, but thought I'd let you know that I have the HP Pavillion dv9000 which I've had since February 2007. The wireless network card stopped working in October, after much troubleshooting, research, and time on the phone with the dumb a$$es at Tech Support, I ended having to send it back to HP and have them replace the motherboard. :ohwell:

yep, thats the point i'm at too. You caught up and didn't have to read the drivel :lmao:

I really disliked being on the phone with tech support becuase I had already come to the conclusion yesterday afternoon of what the issue was but yet it took an hour on the phone for him to come to the same conclusion (But I do attribute most of this to him HAVING to go through all of the steps of "check your drivers, and stuff like that"..). I honestly wouldn't have really minded being on the phone that long besides the fact that I had to get to sleep for work today and he just kept putting me on hold...It took 3-4 times of him coming back saying "thank you for the waiting patient. we appologize for inconvenience" for me to start really getting peeved at him. :killingme

Yeah, I figured it out by the time I called Tech Support too. The girl I was talking to was not the brightest crayon in the box, and I kept getting pi$$ed at her for asking me to complete troubleshooting steps I'd already done on my own. :ohwell: It is fixed now and the turn around time was relatively quick. I had it to HP and back within a week. :yay:

ha, same here. He was making me go through and update my drivers and I was like "I already have both of those downloaded and installed." then he'd ask me when I was going to download and install them...I was like... "errr...I already did"...

god i hate outsourcing. :lmao:
