Camera? Lens? F-stop!?

Canon 40d. 70-200mm. All shots taken at 200mm with the camera resting on the deck rail about 5 feet from the hummers. I have had the best results trying to keep the shutter around 1/500 and Aperture F8. Even when they are perched they seam to have a lot of quick movement.

I sure wish I had somebody with a great camera that could capture my hummingbirds. I have 30-40 at my feeders at one time and many more in holding patterns.

Was wondering if I had the right equipment to try to replicate it.. and I think I do.. Just not enough hummers around to try it with
