Recall of Calif. Governor Close to Ballot
A Republican-led campaign to recall California's Democratic governor, once dismissed as improbable, now appears poised to qualify for the ballot - and to shake up California politics like never before.
It's interesting to note that the Post is making it sound like this is all the VRWC's doing. However, prominent Democrats are pulling strings as well to get Gray-out Davis thrown out.

I don't want to give Democrats any ideas, lest they go after Bobby Ehrlich. There's a part of me that thinks California should have to suffer - they're the ones that elected him. But then we all get to pay for Davis' stupid decisions with government bailouts. :frown:

I don't think anything that goes on out in California surprises anyone enough to talk about it, as long as it stays in California!

I doubt that the recall measure could come to the ballot even though its chances right now are significantly more than they were prior to now. I am not sure if the recall is justified here because the people of the state elected him and it has been under a year since Davis's inauguration. But I would not mind to see him go because he can only hurt the party there.

To hell with the "party" - he's hurting the whole state.

I think it's funny to hear anyone justify keeping a politician in office because "the people elected him". Nobody ever said that about Nixon.

I am not sure that any person could save California right now...Davis overstepped and overestimated the prosperity that his state and the nation were experiencing during the late 90s. The people reelected Gray just last year and well his policies have not been given the right amount of time to have an effect. He did not overly deceive the people like old Nixon did and recalls were not made for this purpose.

Except Davis suppressed the report on the deficit until the day after the election. It was supposed to be released like a week before the election. When it was released the suckers found out that the deficit was roughly twice what he told them before the election if I remember correctly.

I agree with Dems. That's a very bad siutation out there in California. The reason that Davis got elected was that too many Democrats were more worried about keeping the office in the hands of the Democrats than they were about having the right Democrat in office. Yes it is easier to re-elect an incumbant, but if that person is pretty much worthless, you end up with the mess that CA is in. Kinda reminds me of the Kennedy-Townsend campaign. I think Dems would have made a much better governor than KKT.
