Deadeye, I just joined the forum you suggested!
A highly-respected one I like is photo.net.

They feature articles - which can be fairly intense - as well as a forum. The community consists of the whole range, newbies to pro, all formats, all subject matter. :yay:

I am a beginner also. This forum really rocks for photog nuts from beginner to the pro. There are contests, galleries, and lots of people with helpful advice. The interface is same as here so you will feel right at home. :howdy:

I'm registered and my username is Ocean. Thanks for the tip. See you there!:howdy:

No amount of education or experience will allow someone to capture a successful night shot without a tripod.

Go ahead and drop $30 on it and you will be very glad you did later. You'll probably even begin using the tripod on more shots than you get freehanded.

Already have one :yay: Got it to use with my camcorder. I haven't really had a reason to use it for the camera yet. Give me some ideas....

Well...

... perhaps you want to record motion - as in my photos of star trails, people and traffic in NYC, and a stream. Or perhaps you simply need a long* shutter speed to achieve proper exposure (otherwise the result will be too dark). (* "Long" is a relative term; generally a shutter speed slower than 1/60 sec. is considered too slow to be hand-shot... but this can vary.) All my shots below were several seconds to minutes - impossible without support.

Or perhaps you want to capture something at a weird angle. Or something at macro level (i.e., very close), where even a slight shift in position will result in blur and/or a change in your focus point.

Suffice it to say, a tripod can be used in a variety of circumstances, and even under normal shooting conditions, having the stability can remove one potential problem and allow you to shoot away.

Looks good. A tip I read about flowers is to mist them first, give them that dewy look.
