Spring is when the community orgs do their fundraiser festivals. Normally the Somd calendar is filled with them. Will they move them to summer, presuming this crap ends by then, or will they just cancel it and try to raise funds some other way?

Hey, we are holding out hope that we will be able to make it to the end of the year before all our (club) money runs out. We are on the hook for our yearly scholarship awards with no income in sight. We lost several weeks of our very successful drive thru fish & chips dinner and we are hoping to revive a very popular event at the end of July.

I don't know how you try and raise funds in this environment. We have suspended asking for sponsorships for the Blessing of the Fleet and that isn't until October but bands and entertainment need their deposits. 🤷

happy to be living
There are usually a lot of 5K's this time of the year. The bulletin board in the Solomons post office is usually full of them. This year, nada.

:yay:

The Celtic Festival was cancelled. One of the biggest events in Calvert County every year.

I am so bummed.☹ My boyz and I made every one (except when my mom had open heart surgery and my sister passed away 2010 and 2011) since we moved back to Maryland in 2005. The festivals meant so much to us! 🍀

Yeah, I'm the President of Mechanicsville Optimist Club. Can't tell you how many of our events have already been cancelled. All the clubs are cancelling lots of fundraisers, so our service to the youth of the county could be majorly impacted.

I would definitely make the drive again for it.

I loved watching the Massed Bands gather and play - but I couldn't tell you one over another! They're all awesome.

(OMG, I posted that other post on my cellphone - what the heck happened to what I actually typed?!)

True, but I can typically walk 5K whenever I go out!! (sometimes, with Thing1, we walk less than that!)

Yeah I noticed that down this end too. I'm already thinking ahead will TPD still have his annual eggnog party - I definitely making it this year! It just occurred to me I've been here forever - I've never been to a Blessing of the Fleet, Celtic Festival, Solomons, everywhere that everyone goes, I don't. Hell the first time I ever went Saint Gilligan's Island was to meet Gilligan. I'm tired of not living.
Better start now while you still can.

:yay:

That sounds a little sinister. Do you know something I don't know?
No! Just don't wait to start living. Don't wait to get in shape, or quit this or start that. Do it now while you can. :yay: If your son can tolerate going to those places you've never seen - take him and go see them! You've got a ton of places right in your county or the next counties over and a lot of it's free.
:)

All of the ones we paticiapte in / attend have been cancelled. Spring flower sales, etc. are impossible to postpone until summer. I dont think the benefactors will readily accept a “sorry about that”.

I'm so sorry... :( Would it be possible to still hold some of your drive-thru dinners, given that restaurants are permitted to do something similar, or is there a specific ban on non-restaurant organizations doing something like that? I'm sure people (like myself) would come and patronize them to help support local organizations...

We were specifically told that we could not sell.

Oh. Sorry, I must be getting you confused with someone else -I thought you had said something about a farm at one time or another. Thanks.
Yes, mostly hay, some cows, couple of horses, some chickens, dog, cats, etc.... can I interest you in a few hundred bales of hay This spring?

Sounds intriguing. Can I get back with you?

Seriously do you have a buyer for it?
There is a big market for hay especially in areas that didnt get the right weather to grow. We ran short because of last year being too wet and had to bring in a truckload from NY.
