I need a bank account!

If you have money in that account you might want to do minimal transactions every now and then with the account. Banks can take your money after a period of time if there is no activity without trying to contact you because they consider it dormant. Every state is different with their time frame, and I don't know the specifics...but I think Maryland is relatively short in comparrison. You might want to check into that. Of course if you don't have money in that account then I just typed all of this for nothing.

Banks cannot take your money because it is dormant. When an account is dormant it just puts a "freeze" on the account. This can be reversed by a withdrawl. If the account is dormant too long it goes to the state. The bank never gets your money.

I work for BB&T. You should come there. :buddies: You will not e able to get a credit card without a job, but you can get Checking and Savings. Link the two for overdraft protection. Our accounts are free, check card is free. No minimum you have to keep in the account. We have branches over the entire east coast. I'm probably missing alot, but im tired. If you have any more questions just let me know!

Thank you very much for the kind words. We try..lol. You mind if I ask what branches you use? or what area? I actually want to give the FCL (manager) a call and let him/her know what you had to say about their branch.

The Wildwood branch is the only one in St. Mary's County, that I am aware of and that is the branch I use. I have used several others in Maryland, Virginia and North Carolina but usually just to hit the ATM.

:yeahthat:
Navy Fed let me join not only because of family ties, but told me I qualified because I work for a DoD contractor.

They seemed to have relaxed the requirements. It used to be you had to be stationed/deployed overseas in order to join Navy FCU.

I wish I could get an account at navy fed. Credit unions have the best interest rates on auto/home loans. I have Vystar federal credit union and ESFCU (Educational Systems).

Also, Credit Unions don't have all the B.S. fees that banks tend to have. Monthly checking fees, below minimum fees, etc.........

100% right about that, but most banks DO offer the free accounts. You just have to know to ask for them. Make sure the bank opens the right kind of account for you. Remember, banks are in the business of making money just like everyone else. Make sure you careful read your account disclosure that is given to you (required by law).

For example: I have $1 ET'd from my savings to my checking each month. I have about 100 years before the savings is run dry. This saves me a $10 monthly fee for checking/savings.

A lot of work for them, but none for me.

Good way of getting around the system because you have "direct deposit". Only $1 but it works. Good job. I always try and give my customers advise on things like that. It doesn't matter if i help customers save money, or charge them to death. My paycheck is the same. So of course im going to try and save them money.
