It doesn't matter how nice or difficult the divorce is... It's something you never want to experience! :ohwell:

I'll tell you why:

Because many women still forego their career to raise the kids and keep the home. When the guy decides to run off with his secretary, leaving the woman high and dry, she shouldn't have to suffer. He should pay. For his kids, for her, for her retirement.

In one fell swoop, these guys decide to destroy their wife and children's lives. They shouldn't be allowed to do that.

And it's not all formula. Child support is a formula, but everything else is up for negotiation. The house is worth X, the belongings are worth X, I'll keep this car, you keep the other one, etc etc. I know a lot of people that got screwed royally in a divorce because they weren't aggressive enough to get what was rightfully theirs and the lawyer wasn't aggressive enough, either.

The flip side of that is I don't think women who leave their husbands for anything other than abuse should get a dime. Nor should they get the kids.

You want out, baby - take off.
I agree totally as long as you accept that SHE's are just as often to be the offenders. If SHE runs off with the pool boy she don't get shiat either. I have long said that courts in this country should stop being divorce factories and actually listen to the cases. If one party does something to warrant getting slammed they get slammed. Sorry sir/madam but you cheated and ruined your marriage, you get shiat. HA!

If you really want to be pissed off about a divorce, why in the hell does Maryland make you separate a year before filing for divorce? That sucks and is a big waste of a year! Other states have a streamlined process... :ohwell:

True, I wonder how many people reconcile during the wait? Probably not many.

I agree with most of what you've said but the bold part is absolutely retarded. Like it or not men are far more often the offenders.

I understand that your situation is different but that makes you the exception not the rule. Be glad that you're "exceptional" as far as men are concerned.

Absolutely retarded? I will buy "nearly as often". The days of poor June Cleaver left at home crying because mean old Ward ran off with his secretary are not realistic. Many of the traits that break up marriage are shared equally between the sexes. Adultery, alcoholism, financial irresponsibility, staying out carousing until who knows when, abusive behavior are not just for hubby anymore.

But wait, there's more...
I thank my lucky stars that my ex and I were able to negotiate everything in our divorce ourselves and not have it turn into a pissing contest over who got (or got screwed out of) what. :yay:

I got screwed royally in my divorce but I didn't care - all I wanted was my kids and to be out of there. Everything else was replaceable.

If my ex had been a priznick, a-hole, abusive, etc., I'd probably have the same view -- I aquired it all once ... I can/will do it again. :yay:

I suddenly feel the need to belt out Gloria Gaynor's "I Will Survive".

That's too subjective. Some guys think their wife is goofing up the grass just because she gets mad when he sleeps with other women or gets drunk every night.
Very ironic, considering I just had this conversation with my sister. He's drinking and staying out to the wee hours every night, and he says SHE'S too controlling.

She doesn't make him ask permission first so she can "WIN" does she? :cheesy:

:lmao: No, but I think he's been well trained after 26 years of marriage to do it automatically.

Man, I used to think that way, but the deeper I got into it, the more I thougt why in the hell should I let him get away with this. Fortunately, kids aren't involved, but it's still the principle of the thing. I've supported his dead weight for umpty-squat years and that should count for something.

Get this...My husband not only cheated for 2 year, left to move in with her, and now THEY (him and Hore) bought the house NEXT door. Sick abuse, right.

To quote 'The Tubes' in describing every American's birthright... "A Las Vegas wedding, a Mexican divorce, and a severed baby's arm holding an apple."

I shall turn my back on this thread, resplendent in the fact that I have never married.
