You know if the pet owner wasn't concerned they wouldn't have left a message. You don't know what else took place prior to the message for help. What good did your comment do? What were you trying to prove? Simply Amazing!
I believe the point she was trying to stress was if your dog is not feeling himself for 3 + weeks, don't wait so long to take it to the vet.

Say your child was not feeling well for 3+ wks, would you wait to take them to the doctors?

And what good did your comment do? What are your trying to prove? How much of an ass you are?

I think I better explain this better because I don't want to be one of the ones you guys don't like when I visit. I learn alot when I come here and I think you guys are funny and the majority are very nice people.

He started to get lazy. I watched him carefully. Nothing in his ears, nothing. His last well check up was 8/06 with Solomons. I just don't care for them. We have been going to them for years. His last groomer's appt. was April 8th. She always cleans his ears and trims the hairs in his ears. Now he luvs to play ball all the time. He's been doing that. He just seems lazy. Sleeping more than usual.

The recall list comes out. I check it. Alpo was not on there. Three weeks ago I go to Wal-Mart. I HATE WAL-MART. I go only once a month. When I go there I stock up on his food. Started to get low Friday. While I'm in Food Lion I went to pick some up and there's this big notice that Food Lion has pulled it. I went to the manager, he told me they just pulled it 2 weeks ago. I came home read up on it. I saw some Alpo was just being recalled recently. It wasn't included in the first week or so. It just happened. Now an odor started this weekend. When I mentioned that to the receptionist, she's the one that said it could be an ear infection, not me. There is still nothing in his ears.

And about Ralph's Dodge.....I have a health problem which affects my brain, so thanks for watching out for me.

So I love buddy with all my heart. I do care for him. He has been a part of our family for 8 years. He was dumped on the side of the road in St. Mary's with 6 other pups and I fell in love with him when I saw his little fat butt following the crowd of other puppies. He was the runt.

So I hope everyone has a nice day. :flowers:

Or they are picky because they know that the food is bad or they are sick or they have an allergy to the food.

He's been picky since the day I brought him home. It was Alpo that he would finally eat and luv it. He's been eating Alpo for years. But I went out to the garage and I do have a can with the date on it that was recalled. And it is a new kind that I purchased for the first time. Alpo Prime Slices in gravy. Date on the back Feb 2009. I'm taking it with me.

Good luck with your dog. My cat was acting like that and throwing up after eating too, I found out when the first mention of a recall and had him in the vets the next morning. (Tidewater) and they did bloodwork (kidney enzymes, etc.) and it showed elevated levels, way too high for a 4 year old indoor cat. Summized that the food he was eating, "Walmart's Special Kitty cans" was the culprit. He had to go on a special Rx Science Diet K/D formula and hated it, but it's brought his bloodwork numbers down after 3 weeks of it. He was lathargic like your dog and vomiting as soon as he started eating his food. I thought even before the recall that the food was causing it, so I switched up to the chopped food fancy feast and he did better, but was still sick until the vet put him on that KD (kidney) diet. IT"s pricey, but he could have been one of the unlucky ones that didn't make it too! Now a days, I don't really know what to trust as far as the commercial pet food goes. Im now feeding only pedigree and purina to my dog and Fancy Feast and purina dry foods to my cat. So far, he's much better now. Good luck with your dog. I know how upsetting it is. Don't wait so long next time. If it was an ear ache, he'd be shaking his head and holding it sideways more than anything.

Try this... www.beaverdampetfood.com I just picked up some for my dog at Ridge Hardware. Ii don't remember seeing the cat food there, though BeaverDam does have cat food available. It's CHEAP too! Stauffers Feeds is another local supplier. There's a couple of mailorder distributors available for it too. They are all listed on the website. :yay:

I've actually tried that, and unless they changed, they weren't offering it to consumers in smaller 4lbs. sized bags. I was there when the rep from them was at stauffers feed mill, and he opened a bag to divy it up into smaller samples in ziplock bags. My cat ate it okay, but I wouldn't be able to store a 25 lb. bag w/out it getting super stale for one cat to eat. I've thought about asking if they are offering it in smaller bags, last time I was in there getting my horse feed. I'll have to look next time.

Glad your cat is better!!
Mine is knocking stuff around on my desk demanding attention.

This pet food recall is nasty business..dont know which food is safe.
I have 6 cats..all older ones..and all are indoor.'
I fed them Purina Indoor and mix it with Purina Natural..seems to be ok.

"fingers crossed"......

Divy it up into smaller containers yourself if you have to, and freeze it. Dunno, I'll be doing that even for my dog. For the money, and quality of it, I think it's worth it. Just a thought.

Yeah, my "Lee" likes purina indoor too. He was gagging on the "naturals" because I think they are larger morsels, so I stopped feeding him that. We've had enough vomitting already. Didn't need that gagging. Thanks for the good wishes. I'd say there are alot more kitties and dogs out there that are affected than ppl know! My Vet bills so far are over 200 dollars for this pet food recall damage. UGH. He's my buddy, and I wouldn't have thought twice to take him in and have him checked out.

Hi everybody.

Buddy is ok. They were wonderful. We were there for two hours. Blood work shows elevated numbers. Soooo Buddy is on a special hamburger/chicken with rice diet. He is in heaven. I don't usually give him table food, but after seeing his reaction tonight, I think this might just become a habit. We go May 14th for follow up to see how he is feeling. Thank you once again.

Thank you Katt. I am glad your cat is fine. This was really a scare today. Like the Dr. said, the recall list is being changed on a daily basis. My can of food (which I took with me) matched the date but not the numbers. But who knows, so we are staying away from dog food for awhile.

So glad Buddy will be fine. Doesn't it tick you off, though how you trusted a manufacturer to make safe foods, and they don't. You think you are feeding your friend a healthy diet, and it turns out so bad. At least your dog is accepting of his new diet. My cat hated it. They gave me some homemade recipe that was worse than the Science Diet formula, so we just stuck with the Science diet. I'm weaning him back now to his Purina Indoor and he's much happier. It seems with kidney problems, you have to be very careful not to feed a high protein diet. More of a Carbohydrate diet, since it's easier to process than proteins, less stress on the kidneys. So be careful not to overdo the protein part of Buddy's new diet. go heavy on the rice, as long as he's accepting, it'll be good. Not that I'm a vet, or even play one on tv. ;-) Just passing on what my vet told me. (my cat looked at our recipe of liver, rice, boiled egg and of all things, tums, and turned his nose up at it. He wouldn't even eat just the plain liver cooked. Picky boy!

I use Three Notch Vet on 235 just north of Wildewood and before 245.

They take excellent care of my 2 Shih-Tzus.

I have used them for my beagle hybrid, neutering my male Tzu and removing a benign cyst on his head, annual check ups, vaccinations, etc.

Also, the groomer is a cool woman with a punk poodle.

Vets and Dog Food

I rescue Golden Retrievers and I'm very picky about Vets and Food for my dogs. I drive north 30 minutes to Owings to the Chesapeake Animal Clinic, they are beyond wonderful and caring. The vet techs get on the floor and play with your dogs and really care, I had not seen that at any St. Mary's Vet, they rather just have your credit card. Another sign of how great they are is the discount they give rescues. Three Notch Vet was unwilling to give any discount on anything, and for as much as they charge they should be ashamed.

As far as dog food goes, dogs should not eat anything with Corn, Wheat or Soy. Honestly anyone who has followed this rule of thumb would never have been affected by the recalls. If you are feeding something like Alpo or Ol'Roy are you aware that they use euthanized animals and road kill in their foods? Thsi is why dogs are only living for half of their life expectancy and their kidneys go bad, poor nutrition! Anyone interesdted in knowing the truth about pet food, go to www.IsYourPetFoodSafe.com you can get alerts to the recalled foods and learn more about having a healthy and happy dog.

I'm glad you are so enthusiatic about your dogs and their care, but you fail to realize that RICE gluten is also included in that recall. As is, whatever they come up with next. Don't assume you are so far above the fray in this. They are adding to the recalled list every day and just because you like the "new age" dog food, don't think it won't have problems. I'm not so sold on the holistic pet foods either. They aren't regulated and who's to say, they don't come up with some problem. I've Not heard of Euthanized animals/road kill being used in pet foods, you'd have to prove that to me and should have linked that evidence in your statement. But you fail to realize, dogs and cats are carnavors and in that sense, they do eat meat. Unlike the Mad Cow thing that was perpetuated by animal byproducts in the cattle feeds, Cattle are not meat eaters, so therein lies that problem. AS far as the vets here in St. Mary's... I've seen a few and seen what some charge, and I've been very happy with Tidewater Vets. they are very considerate, don't over charge like most and have called me on many occasions to follow up on my pets.
