.......to vent! It never fails, EVERY year on the day we plan my daughter's birthday party we get a snow storm and her party is a bust. Last year, HUGE SNOW STORM and only like 10 people came. Year before that, Disney on Ice tickets with friend, HUGE SNOW STORM and all the friends parents cancel and won't let me take their kids with me anymore....and now this year-party on Saturday, ice storm on Friday night?? ARGH! My poor daughter (she's turning 7) was crying last night that she hates having a winter birthday. So, if you're wondering when the weather will be sh*tty next year just ask me when I'm planning her party and you'll know!!!

Ahhh, thanks for listening, I needed that!

Well, 10 actually seems like a lot to me but maybe I'm the exception. I feel your pain though. One year, I sent invitations to all the kids in my son's class for his birthday party and I had, ONE, reply! Now that was frustrating. Hope it turns out okay for you and your daughter. If it were me, a little snow or ice wouldn't keep me from bringing my kid but then, I grew up in the north.

Why not set a "snow date" like we set "rain dates" in the spring/summer??

Well you beat me with the premature labor! I would love to schedule a "snow date" but I've already paid for the room, the cake, and the food. Those things can't be held for the new date. Snow doesn't bother me, I grew up in Lake Placid, NY. 10 people is a lot, but not when you invited all the kids in her class, plus kids from the daycare, family, friends, etc. We sent 30 invites out and to date only FIVE people have called to RSVP. That drives me up the wall!! Next year I'm going to put on the invites "if you don't RSVP don't plan on coming b.c I will not be buying food or party favors for your child and have it be wasted when you do or do not decide to show" LOL

How about just having a party with the immediate family?

So have a "super special winter weather avoidance birthday party" a month AFTER her birthday. Do the same every year, tell people in advance what you are planning and eventually people will get used to it.

when my daughter turned 16 ( march ) we had her party in June at my mom's back yard pool. Everyone brought gifts just like it was her B-day. She had to wait a while ( we had a family get together for her in March ) Party was so much fun..worth the wait. Also my son's B-day is Sept 1, we tell him every year we are getting him school clothes and school supplies for his B-day LOL!!!

My son's b-day is late January and we ALWAYS had crummy weather the day of his party. Surprisingly, the kids would always show up even in snow. Don't fret -- just stay home, have a movie marathon, eat cake and icecream and make it up to her when the weather gets warm.
