IRS has several offices....I am currently on a payment plan with them and actually have been for the past five years. I have mailed my payment to New York, Kansas, down south......etc
They can come after you for ten (10) years after a tax year (believe me I know) LOL.
When you call them, they will require your social security number, your filing status and whether you received a refund or owed taxes last year. They ask this to verify that you are actually you.
I will say that you must respond to them in a timely manner, otherwise they do levy your bank account, (again believe me I know). But on that note, I will say that when I communicate with the IRS, they have been wonderful to work with, they are very flexible and work with you (again, I know, hence me being on a payment plan for so long). Good luck!
