What are hotel fees .? I pay for the room & state tax.
Resort fees, say MGM advertised $50/night, when you book the room there is a $20/night resort fee. They told me it was for the wifi and other amenities, their wifi sucked so bad I couldn't use it to check into my flight. It's pretty common at big tourist destinations.

You shouldn't be using the hotel wifi anyways. Unless you also run a VPN and have a software firewall on your computer. Hotels are notorious for misconfiguring their networks such that clients aren't isolated which makes you a target for every script kiddie in the place (and there will be many in a vegas hotel).

Let's see now. The only time I use a card at a restaurant is when someone gives me a Gift card otherwise i pay with cash,, and I tip with cash, and IMO I tip well if the service is good.

Next we all know of the 87,000 IRS people the democrats wanted to hire, until the Republicans held up the money. Only a damned fool would think those people were going to go after the rich.

As for hotels: I was planning a trip to Florida this year, so I started to look for accommodations The places to stop on the way down were not bad, but OMG once entering Florida the prices jumped an amazing amount. So amazing I am not going. There are other places not so costly..

Texas is jumping all over this, promoting their prices vs. FL. PCB is on the brink of pricing itself out of the market - they are in come high or stay home territory and a modest income family would have a hard time affording a beach vacation here.

I visit Florida about every 3 or 4 years, and I was amazed at the cost increases.
To put it simply I will not be visiting Florida this year

You really should go.

They only charge more to people with California and New York License plates.

FYI - paying tips in cash, especially in a mom and pop restaurant, hurts the restaurant owners. They have to guarantee a certain hourly wage to the tipped staff. If the tipped employees are paid tips in cash and don’t report at the end of the night, then the restaurant owner has to make up the difference in their paycheck. I don’t think that is fair for anyone, so if I’m paying with a credit card, I tip with a credit card. There are a lot of times I figure the waitress is making more per hour than I am so I want her to pay taxes just like me!

But at the same time, all of your tip doesn't go to the tip. If it's on a credit card, there is a percentage taken by by bank. As a consumer, I'm not getting my value and the staff doesn't get what I intended.

And I see it as I'm getting hosed in taxes so bad, if I can help someone else get $5 over on the Feds... :yay:

That tip is double taxed anyway. I already paid taxes on it when I earned it. If I give my kid $100 for his birthday, does he have to declare it as income and pay taxes on it? Or is it a gift?

Because a tip is a gift as well.

If a McDonald's employee can pay taxes on their minimum wage job then restaurant wait staff can also afford to pay their taxes. My nephew worked at a Denny's in the early 90s, back when they still had the $1.99 grand slam (that thing is $10 now I think), and he pretty much always cleared $100 a weeknight in tips. I can't imagine what someone working at a more expensive restaurant makes, but it must be a hell of a lot more than minimum wage.
