No regrets, ever. As long as you've recovered everything first that's important, wiping is a good thing. Cleans out the "cobwebs" and restores system performance.

I wiped my computer completely clean. I thought it was going to be garbage, but here I am typing away on it. The best thing I ever did for it. I had so many issues with it before I wiped it clean. Now it runs perfectly.

Sorry...no horror story for ya! :howdy:

No regrets here either. Always good to do a clean install now and then, cleans up the registry, and removes all the old files left from uninstalled apps and such. Just be sure to backup all of your data somewhere and verify its readable.

well my biggest fear is "reloading" things....like the wireless drivers, and stuff like that.
I have all the original discs that came with it (but i dont have the codes anymore.
my windows...which i believe is the professional edition needs the activation code...so i'm s.o.l.
I allready backed up all my "lil things" like limewire, audio recording programs, photoshop, ect.

I dont think that the wireless driver is part of the windows system or am i mistaken?

:yeahthat: I actually had to have the motherboard replaced in mine recently and wiped it before I sent it off to the manufacturer for repair. I don't need Joe Schmuckitelli going through all of my personal documents and pictures during his lunch break.

Go to BELARC.com, downlaod and run the free version..it will tell you all the stuff you have inside your PC...numbers included.

I love the Belarc program and use it often!!!

I did a clean swipe of my laptop, backed up entire harddrive on a backup USB dirve, installed bigger HD and MORE memory and reloaded stuff and transfered a bunch of stuff from USB drive. Love the "new" and "improved" Gateway!!

Good Luck!!!

:killingme Your Windows CD.... is it a "real" windows CD or a Recovery Disc from the laptop mfg? Reason I ask is if its from the laptop manufacturer there should be a sticker on the bottom of your laptop with the Windows serial number on it, so you dont need to have it anywhere else.
