I Want My Kitties Back!

My husband and I adopted a cocker spaniel, Mickey, and brought him home last Thursday. Since then, my two kitties have been scared out of their wits end. Muffie (the older cat) has been starting to warm up to Mickey (meaning she doesn't mind being in the same room as him), but neither cat will go near him. It's so frustrating and sad to see my kitties always nervous and scared that I just want to send my husband and his dog to the other end of the house and stay there so that I can have my kitties and let them be themselves. Poor kitties. :-(

Give them time, they will adjust. Depending on the cats it can take a few days up to a month or so... just let them sort it out.

They will eventually come around. It will take some time. Until then they will be puffballs. Been there done that. Good luck!

I hope so. I'm really concerned about our youngest kitty. If he sees Mickey, he darts to the other end of the house like a bat-outta-hell.

They will, just takes a little time, once they realize there is no real danger from the dog, they'll get used to him.

But what if they are in danger from the dog? Not all dogs like cats and some will attack. Did the people or group the OP got him from say he got along with cats? Personally, I would keep a real close eye on the dog...

Yeah, but if the cats have their claws and puppy dog "invades their space," a swat on the nose with claws extended will put a stop to it.....eventually.

I just bought a puppy home Thursday myself and I have 3 cats. The older on (13) is not friends with any thing or anyone! The middle one (8) has already warmed up to the pup, she is the most loving and friendly. The baby (1.5) she hisses and gets her butt on her shoulders when the pup is around. I am giving them time and space. Hope for the best. The pup wants to play with all three of them!!!! :1bdz:

We have been keeping a close eye on him and the cats. He hasn't growled at the cats like he wants to kill them, but he whines like crazy cause he wants to play with them. They are both okay with being in the same room as the dog now, but they won't let him get any closer than 5 feet. It's a no win-win situation for all of us right now.
