I use the self-checkout at the local Walmart and have never, ever had anyone make me line up or stop me to check my receipt. Hell, one time I forgot about two six-packs of sodas I had stuck over the cart railing and walked out with them, when I checked my receipt at home I noticed I hadn't rung them up. Went back the next morning, explained it to Customer Service and paid for them then.

Keeping your karma straight - I appreciate that :yay:

For you all who don't like having your receipt checked, it's a loss prevention thing that helps keep prices low. Just because you don't steal doesn't mean nobody does.

I agree with the premise of not wanting to wait for someone to check my receipt at the door. I use self-checkout whenever I can. I use it because I can scan my items faster, I can bag them grouped the way I want, and I don't like waiting in lines for a cashier. But Sam's club and Walmart put a person at the door (usually just one person) to look at your receipt and match the items in your cart with the receipt. Hello, that defeats the purpose of trying to check out as quickly as possible. I am not interested in using the self scanning and self checkout features only to have to wait behind 4 people to get out of the building. Sam's club used to do it even before they had self checkout. I see no need to have to checkout twice!

And it could very well be location based. I have been to certain Walmarts that do not even have a self checkout and I suspect it is because of a high theft risk. RFid technology reduces this risk. Of course I'm not sure why they are that worried about it. These are the same big box retailers that are now telling you to keep an item and still refunding your money if you decide to return it.
I dont stop at regular stores like Walmart for them to check my receipt, our transaction was at the cashier and now its over.
At Sams and Costco you signed a contract when you joined the Club.
I stop and let them check what I bought.

Oh, I don't mind stopping, I'm just not waiting in line for it. If they want me to line up, they need more bodies checking.

It is a loss prevention, but don't kid yourself. Any place that has self scanning, self weighing of produce or bulk goods, also has a price increase margin above the normal profit margin built in. In short, you are paying for those who steal whether the receipts are checked or not.

The lack of common sense in bagging also makes me pass on the checkouts with cashiers.

Can’t tell you how many times I watched one of them start to put a can of tomatoes or beans on top of a carton of eggs, or one instance, a jar of spaghetti sauce with the bread. Dumbasses.

I had a strawberry shortcake put in the bag SIDEWAYS. All the strawberry glaze slid to the side of container. I bought it for company stopping by. I think that was the incident that made me the maddest. It's the new, younger ones that do that crap. They need training on how to bag. I use Instacart delivery or pick up now. Their shoppers are good, it's bagged properly. I've only had one bad experience with them. Believe me, they heard about it too. I got a refund and discount on my next order. She lost her tip too.

I've never had someone check my receipt at Wal Mart. At Sam's they scan your receipt and 3 items in your cart. They used to glance at your receipt and try to count up your items to match. That was slowing the lines so they went to scanners.

I believe the standard is if it isnt in a bag to check, whether or not it would actually fit in a bag.

They checked for my pepsi once while I had multiple $25 jugs of oil.

Meanwhile all these stores replacing workers with self checkout and automation this administration still reports job growth. Ihop isn’t able to stay open on some nights due to not having staff. I see help wanted signs everywhere I go. Several of the things I have ordered were delayed due to staffing lately. How are these people not going back to work?
