I Was Scammed!

I am not knocking ebay, I happen to love them and will continue to buy from them. I just wanted to let everyone else know so they could avoid my situation. If you saw the paperwork I have for the transaction you would have thought it to be legit. Ebay had nothing to do with what happened to me, the person who scammed me used Ebay square trade. It was a hard lesson learned.

Everyone please be aware! I have bought alot of things off of ebay in the past. I had recently bid on some redskin/ cowboy tickets and lost. So I had given up. Then I received an email from someone claiming to be through ebay square trade wanting to sell me his tickets. They were great seats at a great price (should have been a red flag). Through this person all I had to do is wire the money through western union to ebay square trade and I would get my tickets. Needless to say, I haven't received them and after some research on ebay I found a great deal of others who were scammed. I only lost $250 but lots of others lost way more. I urge you be careful when buying anything, all of the emails, paperwork, etc looks legit, but if I had taken the time to do a little research I would still have my money. I have reported the individuals to the proper authorities but it won't get me my money back. Guess I will be rooting for the redskins at home this sunday.
I wish you would have posted this yesterday before I lost 15K. Damn Nigerian bastards. :war:

I know it was my fault, I am upset I didnt see it sooner. This was the very first time I received an email like that and I have been shopping on ebay for years. There are people who have complaints on ebay that have lost thousands of dollars. I am thankful I only lost what I did. In response to an earlier post no I wasnt trying to get ahead on someone. I only wanted to get something nice for my dad that I couldnt win on ebay.

Outside of that, the mere fact that someone would want me to wire money to them is just absurd. Unless they are a known creditor or something – why the heck would I just blindly give money to an unknown person?? This is not much different than the emails that circulate from Nigera where this business person wants you to give them a bank account number so they can deposit an inheritance which was left to you from a distant relative.

I've gotten dozens of these emails and each time I get an email from someone whose email address I do not recognize it immediately goes into my spam email which gets deleted each time I log off. It never gets opened.

Outlook also has a feature that allows you to view the body of an email without actually opening it up. Anything that looks suspicious should be deleted immediately.

Ebay, equine.com and bunches of other sites are loaded with scams. It's a shame but it's always bound to happen. I learned really quick after loosing a couple hundred on ebay.

If you want to buy or sell legit sports tix, go to www.stubhub.com

:yay:

Stubhub has some of the highest prices out there. A reputable broker will do you right too. Ebay is usually the cheapest if you don't get caught up in the bidding thing. Craigslist is tricky unless you live locally, but I've had good luck getting tickets there, too.

Market timing is important, too. Tickets to a game I want to go do have been dropping for the last 2 weeks. The "frenzy" is over and people aren't paying $1000 a ticket anymore.

While I was on vacation last month, I got an email from ebay. Someone had hacked into my account and had listed (tried to sell) like 15 Gucci purses.
Another scam unfortunately. You can tell they're fake if you move your mouse pointer over the links in the email (but DON'T click on them) and what is displayed on the status bar on the bottom of the screen doesn't match the link in the body of the email. I would just delete them though or forward them to the eBay spoof email. Same with PayPal.

I will never buy another thing off E-Bay. My girlfriend was scammed as well She lost $2500.00!! :yikes:

I've had very good luck with eBay

I always check the reputation of the seller. I always make sure they've got a positive rating (above 90%) and that they've sold several items and it's not a new kid on the block.

Whenever I check something online, I've actually seen people email me and let me know when something smells funny.

Did they provide a link for you to sign in??

I get fake e-bay e-mails all the time, asking me to log on "here" to confirm I'm the legit owner etc..

You MAY have been scammed..

No, there was no link. They basically froze my account. I can make no purchases or anything. I had to sign into ebay and change my passwords. I have to prove I am me and go through a whole bunch of crap to get my account unfrozen.

The hacker racked up like $70 worth of charges on my account, in listing fees. Ebay did a good job and is not holding me accountable for anything. Now if I can just get my account back..............

Yeah, I've gotten all the fake emails before too, unfortunately this one was for real. The way you know it is real is that you get the email in your email notifying you, then when you log into ebay, there are alerts in you My Ebay Messages.

This is one of the emails I was sent:

I thought they were fake too, until I logged onto ebay, seen the messages and the charges in my Selling History, and talked to ebay support.
