I work at Walmart – we aren’t dumb,

I once forgot to scan something that was tucked under the cart at BJs. A truly honest oversight. But because of the high number of those kinds of thefts in the area, the door checker asks for your card, copies the name and member number and puts it on a list next to the door.

I'm waiting for the "wall of shame" where they put your photo up.

Reading the articles that GURPS posted as well as everyone’s comments here, I would like to pitch in on the topic of stealing at the self check out.

Walmart+ has a feature called Scan & Go where you scan what you want to buy in the Walmart app as you’re shopping, and you scan a QR code at the self checkout to finish your order and pay. Kind of redundant in some aspects, especially considering you still have to wait in line at the self checkout to pay, but that also gives people an open opportunity to steal.

With Scan & Go, who’s to say that you didn’t actually scan everything in your cart and pay for it all too? I have used it myself only one time, haven’t used it since then only because it feels more on the awkward side. Not to mention there’s cameras all over the checkout areas, both self checkout and the cashier lanes too.

They've instituted this in a number of places. Giant has it. One of the reasons costs are up is for theft prevention, one of those prevention methods being RFID tags in everything. If you use the scan-and-go and then try to pass thru the door exit scanners, your purchases* are compared to your 'receipt'.

* Should have said 'cart contents'.

I try not to put apps on my phone. More apps means more ads .

I recall the days from being stationed overseas. Payday weekend at the commissary. The line to check out would go down 1 side of the building then snake around the entire back side of the place. You got in line in the first aisle after you went through the entire store to make your purchases. Most people shopped the last 2 sections while they slowly moved forward. This was back before bar codes, so the cashiers had to manually type in every price.

Years later I had 1 ex cashier tell me that when she got her friends in her line, she'd only ring up half of the items. Then that shopper kicked her back a few bucks. She somehow justified this behavior because of being stationed overseas and not being paid well. Some times employees are the stores worst thieves.

The world should take a lesson from the Aldi checkout folks. They usually have everything scanned before I even get my bag in place.
Well yeah they go twice as fast. They only have to do half the work. I still have to take the time to bag everything.

I use one cold bag, and rarely exceed that one bag. They fill it at the register and I walk out.

Yeah, I never go there when I'm getting more than one or two things, but they still always make me bag it myself. Maybe you're just cuter than me😁
