This is for the idiot who just hit a Pomeranian on Steer Horn Neck Road and left her to die. Her owner was outside in the yard when this happened and was visably devasted by the time I got there. Thank you to the owner's neighbor for rushing the poor pup to the vet.

To the hit and run driver, you could have at least stopped :smack:

Maybe they didn't realize they'd hit a dog. Why was the dog in the road?

It was actually about two feet in it's driveway so the car could have swerved. I pass this house everyday and the dogs are NEVER in the road.

If you are paying attention, you realize if you hit something.

Years ago I saw a school bus (full of kids) do that same thing in front of my house. The driver didn't stop. She didn't care. The kids knew it happened and were crying because it belonged to a kid on the bus.

I guess I'm on the fence about this. People are jerks...it's our job to protect our pets from jerks, etc.

Are you saying the person swerved into the driveway to hit the dog?

That's sad. Does the pup have a fighting chance? I hit a squirrel once. It happened so fast and I just caught it out of the corner of my eye. Didn't feel a bump or anything but was afraid it was a kitten. I turned around and went back to make sure. If the person was driving a bigger size car or SUV, I could see where they might not have realized they hit the little pomeranian. If they did realize it and drove off, shame on them!

if you know you hit the dog and don't stop, isn't that against the law, you know, like a hit and run?

I'm not saying anything about how it happened. I didn't witness it. I just came along the owner yelling and screaming in his driveway, hovering over his little dog.

I had just seen the owner at the local store five minutes earlier so he must have just gotten home and let his dogs out to potty.

Did you by chance get the license plate number?, or any info that would aid you or someone else in finding this person? I would try to find that info if it was me and go directly to them and say Hey, do you realize what you did?

Did the dog survive?

I'm not sure about the pups condition. There wasn't much blood so hopefully it was just a "bump" hit. A nurse stopped and took the owner and pup to the vet and she was very careful to keep the pup supported.

I just feel really bad for the owner. He was so upset.

Again, I didn't see it happen. I passed as the owner was in his driveway hovering over the dog. It happened right at the mouth of the road, so the vehicle couldn't have been going that fast.

What would be the point? You are just leaving yourself open for unnecessary confrontation. The owner of the dog is ultimately responsible for this accident. Confronting the driver will do nothing to the owner but add to the stress and potentially lead to confrontation and bigger problems.

I will pass through there soon and if the owner is home, I will inquire. I hope the little pup makes it. It may also teach the owner to keep a closer eye.

I just wish people would take responsibility for their mistakes. I would hope they didn't intend to hit the dog. Just stop and at least say you are sorry.

Years ago on Christmas Eve, I was visiting my father and step mother. On my way out I ran over and killed their dog and the neighbor's dog. It was dark and I didn't know they were trying to eat my tires. Talk about a tough thing to do...walking back in and telling your parents you hit their dog and the neighbors dog. :bawl: MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!

I agree, you have a valid point. It would just add to the emotions of the owner.....always good to see the flip side of the coin as there always is one as much as some hate to believe in that.
Still sad nonetheless about the dog.

On my way home last night I came across a car pulled over on the side of the road with its flashers on and a man standing by his car. I got closer and saw there was a deer in front of his car - alive....a car going the opposite direction hit it, it bounced across the road to the side of the road and layed there. This man out of the kindness of his heart stopped and called the authorities. I'm used to seeing them dead on the side of the road, but this was so sad and upset me terribly. I was standing talking to this man and the deer was just sitting there, looking around and it broke my heart knowing someone was on there way to kill it. Walked in the door of my home crying my eyes out.

I ran over my toy poodle with my dually 3500 truck, didn't even see him, he didn't see that second back tire. Squashed the guts right out of him. I was hysterical. A couple thousand dollars later he is still skipping around the yard...:smoochy:thank goodness.
