My experience is that I say "Who's with me?" and a ton of people go, "Me!" But when I make my stand there isn't another soul around to back me up. Even when it was someone else's idea, I was the only one who showed up. My takeaway from that is we are a nation of sissies - lazy sissies - who are too intimidated and scared to rebel against the aholes.
So like people are all talking about forming groups for the Zombie Apocalypse, I'll be a solo act and raid their camps for provisions because I know they won't do anything about it.

So they moved once, and we know where the line of intolerability is (when these policies kill 20% of their population). In ever department and every workplace there are brown-nosers and promotion crawlers who will kiss the asses of leadership for that next promotion. They have no friends, no ethics, no conscience, they are just after that next promotion. IMO from what I have read of the incident their Fire Chief reached his position in this manner. The Fir Commissioner. was an administrative hire who never rode the truck, and is a professional ass-kisser.
^This^ The fire chief isn't defending his crew, he's kissing the ass of the political shitbags. Because if he didn't kiss their ass, they'd fire him and get someone who would. That's the way it works.
