I dont beleive some people....
from FreeCycle...
"Were getting a new puppy and are in need of supplies. I really need a crate, toys, play yard/gates, etc."

They can't afford to buy supplies and have to go asking for free stuff for puppy?
What about food? What about the vet? What about being responsible pet owner?

People that have to beg for free stuff should never own any animal!

Wonderful quote from HSUS:

"If you can't afford the vet, you can't afford the pet!"

I got a ton of hand me down stuff for my baby...does that mean I should give her back?

I'm going to agree with the OP on this...It wasn't like you went online and said, "Hey, I'm going to get knocked up......can you all give me x,y,z,..."

That's what the babyshower is for..

Maybe they can afford it but are looking around to see if they can get something for free first.

I hear you, and understand what you are saying. I guess when I read, "We are getting a puppy.." that it is a done deal and on the way. Not that they are thinking about it, etc.

"...and are in need of supplies. I really need a, b, c." It reads to me that they got a puppy, but don't have any of the necessities for it. I don't want to split hairs, or "what if" it into the grave. It just reads, to me, the way the OP suggested.

Some of the "wanted" ads on FreeCycle are ridiculous. People asking for furniture in "great condition" with a bunch of specifics, cars, etc.

:yeahthat:

It's called being thrifty.

Another :yeahthat:

Also, it makes me happy when I have something I no longer need and somebody takes it away.

P.S. We have a bunch of downed trees in the woods behind us if anyone wants to cut/haul. (Oak)

Our cut wood was taken away :yahoo: but we still have a HUGE rootball which would make a great bonfire next year if anyone wants it.

Reduce, Reuse, Recycle

I always go for used books and cds on Amazon. Not because I can't afford new, but because if someone no longer wants something that I'd like to have, I'd rather see it recycled to me than go to the dump.

My 9 month old German Shepherd goes though soft squeekie toys like they're nothing, buy new ones every week. When she's done with them they are no use to anyone else. And she's so proud of them, she runs to show daddy every time she gets a new one, you'd think she'd take better care of them!

But I bought a big fluffy bed she won't go near, may be looking for a new home for it soon.

The OP obviously doesn't GET what freecycle is about.

What's wrong with doggie hand-me-downs? I shop at the thrift stores all the time - doesn't mean I can't afford new stuff, just means I like a deal. And I like a freebie hand-me-down even better.

I've gotten 2 pets off the free ads here on somd.com. My first one 11 years ago and the one I have now (the first one passed away from old age 2 1/2 years ago. Both have been great little pets. I never could figure the real reason why the people wanted to give them away, but I'm glad they did.
