If

I were Verizon, I think I would feel very small for charging someone and "early termination fee', if they passed away. It's not like they they chose pick a competitor. They asked If there was someone else I could put on it as the family plan. I said, gee, I'm not sure let me look around the house.

That sucks. My mom was given the run around for something similar when my dad died. They refused to talk to her because she wasn't the "primary account holder". She finally got through to them when she told them she would no longer accept their calls or mail for him and gave them the name/address/phone number of the funeral home that cremated him as his fowarding address/poc.

When I called to cancel my mother's account, they waived the fee.

I had similar issues with my Mom's accounts. Call the company and ask them for the office that handles Deceased accounts. If they don't have one, keep requesting further up the chain or for the arbiter.

Sorry you have to go through this, I know completely how hard and fustrating it can be.

You know, when my friend's son passed away Verizon did the same thing. Friend refused to pay. When it went to collection, she explained what happend to the collection agency. The collection agency waived the "collection amount." Not sure how the collection agency rectified the that with Verizon.

Maybe I'll call them back. Thx.

The lady I spoke with was actually very nice. Told her I needed to cancel my mother's account. Of course she asked why. I told her she passed away. The lady said she was very sorry to hear that, waived the fee. Done deal.

I had issues with Verizon for months over a bill I didn't owe that they insisted I did. Then they tell me there is no record that I called there 5+ times before about the bill. They were rude, they put me on hold, all the while I was being pleasant about the problem. They gave me the run-around like you would not believe. I finally ignored their bills and forgot about it until someone suggested the FCC - so I filed a complaint against them.
