People are stupid like that.. Good thing there isn't a humane society that readily accepts people's kids or we'd be in trouble.
Her best bet IS to return the dog to the humane society.

Most Humane Society organizations have a contract that requires the animal to be returned should there be a problem.

Why would you even adopt a dog if you don't have the time or space?? :buttkick:

It happens all the time. I just had a 6+ year old lab mix returned because he didn't get along with their other dog and needed "a lot more room" than they had for him to run. He's now lying here at my feet with the blind terrier mix and a number of cats. . . so much for his not getting along with other dogs or animals! As for the running, the only place this dog wants to run is to the car when he thinks he's getting a ride. . .It's as though people like the idea of saying they adopted an animal but once the novelty of that wears off they want to rid themselves of the burden of the animal. . . did I mention I hate people sometimes?!

When I used to adopt animals out for Calvert Humane Society it stated in the contract that the animal must be returned if there was a problem. She/he should be reported. Shame on this idiot for even taking the animal in the first place.

I know that SMAWL has them sign a contract that says they have to come back. She probably doesn't want to get herself black-balled from adopting again.

Maybe this brilliant person meant Animal Shelter not Humane Society?

I don't get people some times. I'm so soft hearted I would adopt every homeless animal at Tri-County if I could, but I don't have the space or time either.

Ignorance is being so self centered, self rightous, and self absorbed that you forget that some people don't know there is a difference between a humane society and a shelter. Therefor, it is very easy for people to unwittingly confuse the two.

Tri-County makes you sign a contract stating that if you can't keep the animal any longer than you will return it to them. How many people would willingly return an animal there knowing how slim the owner give ups chances of staying there for more than a day are? Heck, the front desk people even tell you when you go to turn in the dog that the chances are slim of them staying much longer!

Do I think this person was stupid for adopting an animal that she didn't have time for? Yes. Do I think if she adopted from a Humane Society and not a Shelter, she should return it? Yes. Do I think if she got it from Tri-County she is doing the right thing? Well, she should charge something for the animal to help weed out those that are just looking for a free pet but she is probably saving this dogs life by not returning it.

Remember, education not condemnation.

Well...can't "someone" from SMAWL look up her name and give her a friendly call?

Actually, it doesn't stand that much better of a chance if it is returned to the Humane Society either. Once they are full, they ship the animals down to Tri-County Shelter. If they are full, guess what happens to them then. :bawl:

I guess it depends on which Humane Society you go to. The ones that I have worked with accept back the animals they have adopted out and keep them until another home is found. I have heard of a few though that once they are full, dispose of the ones that have been there the longest.

I volunteer with SMAWL and I've checked our records. She didn't adopt this dog from us. Sometimes people mix us up thinking we are a humane society. We are actually an all-volunteer organization like most of the other rescues.

St. Mary's County has no humane society---unfortunately.

I'm assuming I got the red karma because of my "I hate people sometimes" comment. Bring it on, if you're going to treat animals like so much garbage there's only one emotion I have left for you . . .

We should invite her in here. Think she is a forumite?

If she is then I hope she reads this thread. At least she could try to offer an
explanation though this is what she would get. :buttkick:

If the person who posted the add is not coherent enough to remember where he/she adopted from then they should see a shrink and get prescribed some serious meds.
