I love the smell of the basmati!jazz lady said:Good choices. White potatoes are one of the big evils, although I do indulge now and then. You're much better off eating sweet potatoes WITHOUT all the sugar dumped on top. Just a dollop of butter and a sprinkle of cinnamon and I'm in heaven.
I get the brown basmati rice from BJ's, but you should be able to find it in any grocery store now. I like the basmati better because it has a nice, nutty flavor and smells like popcorn when cooking.
Willona said:Hi Pixie, what dosage are you taking of the topomax? I have been taking 25 mg's a day for about 2 years now without any probs. My doctor said that one of the side effects could be weight loss, because it could decrease your appetite, however I was not one of those lucky ones. I did increase my dosage to 50 mg for a short time and I did feel a little spacey, but it still didn't decrease my appetite (dammit)..so I am back to the 25mg. It seems to help and I don't get headaches as much, but still do get them once in a while. One thing I found also that helps is called migrastick. You can get it at a health food store. It is a roller stick that has mint and lavender oils in it and you roll it on your temples, forehead and back of the neck. It has relieved my headaches when I have felt them coming on, although I wasn't for sure if it was a migraine or just a sinus headache. Good luck with it. I just thought I would put in my .02.

9 g of sugar isn't bad. Just don't cut sugar out cold-turkey else you will get more killer headaches. Do it gradually and you will be fine.pixiegirl said:Thus far today I've had an apple with peanut butter, two hard boiled eggs with a little mayo and mustard and I have a banana and some granola munchems (which have 21 g of carbs and 9 g of sugar but I'm doing this gradually).
Like I said, BJ's sells it as well as most of the grocery stores. I've tried the low-carb and wheat pastas and find them pretty tasty.Jazz, do they sell that rice at the grocery store? What about pasta? I think I've seen different pasta (as in made of something else) is that a better alternative?
jazz lady said:Here's the link to the book called "Sugar Solution." It has a nice article about the GI and lists foods for you. You'd be surprised to find out Peanut M&M's have a lower GI than potatoes.

Yes, I do. And I thought it was hilarious that you wondered if you were going to have to give up yogurt, and didn't mention quitting the pie.pixiegirl said:Ya think?
pixiegirl said:My migraines are very bad. We're talking weekly, lasting 2-3 days each. That's a lot of time to have a headache. I have to get a CT of my neck before my next apt as premature arthritis due to an old fracture is also suspected of agrivating the condition. I'm on 75 mg of Topomax this week and will go up to 100 mg next week which will be my normal daily dose. I'm fairly small (105-100 pounds) so I'm guessing it's a pretty heavy dose? I've been on so much crap that my tolerances are through the roof though.

BTW - I'm not much of a breakfast eater, but I have to have something in the morning. I found a cereal at BJ's called "Zoe's O's Cinnamon" and it's delicious, nutritious, and low sugar.
