Story in the news is that some chaperones for an overnight high school trip were concerned about students sneaking out in the night, so they duct taped the door handles of their rooms.

If I'd heard of this happening with my kids, I'd have laughed and applauded their ingenuity. However, other parents are more conscientious than I and they are raising a stink about their child being "imprisoned". "What if there was a fire?" "What if they had to go get a drink?"

:jameo:

Kid on the news was upset because it took him three whole tries before he could break the tape and get out of his room.

In My Opinion
why cant they just do like me?

When I had the security installed at the house I had the bedroom door to my daughters room, her windows, and the house doors all put on separate zones.
I had second controller that could not be over rode from the main hall controller installed in my bedroom.

let her try to sneak out, front of the house is going to light up like an alien landing craft complete with high pitch sirens.

she has no clue about all of this,.

I get the idea here, but as FOX and Friends said (I was listening to it in my car on XM:yay:), the purpose wasn't to know they were there, it was to keep them locked inside.

They were using duct tape, which is strong enough to stop a moving vehicle (again, as they stated on F&F).

It was an interesting story, and it's much better to listen to that show on the radio than it is to watch it. :yay:

That was a valid point. Y'all would've felt like shieat if there was and this kid was locked up inside with no way to get out.

And the school thinks this is a good idea? :wtf:

how do we know that it was the school. the chapeones could easily have been parents of other students. it's possible that the school had nothing to do with the duct tape and wasn't even aware of it.

seriously, how much duck tape do you need to use to keep a door knob from operating? i would be willing to bet it was meant as a deterent, not to imprison.

...lost my coffee over that one! At first, I thought this was little kids or something and, hey, maybe it's some super duct tape but, then they showed some freaking linebacker looking kid boo hooing he had to 'try' three times to get out. :lmao: His mom was so worried...

Our cult of celebrity is to intense is this nation that we will say and do and complain about ANYTHING if it's gonna get us on the tube! :lmao:

...they put a SINGLE strip from the outside frame through the handle and back to the frame. TO THE FRAME. The ONLY way anyone would have trouble opening the door is if they weren't expecting it and didn't pull in very firmly. There was ZERO risk of anyone being trapped.

You got it - the school didn't know anything about it and the chaperones were parents.

Nylon strapping tape would have worked better.

They used to put thin paper tape on the tops of our doors. If we snuck out, the tape was broken. Do you know what we did instead? Took off the vents inside the room and crawled through the building's duct work. :lmao:

Where did you get this system...I would love to have that on my kids room...she is only 7 but would be perfect for intruders as well! (plus when she is a teen, my mother answered my window once...I was out)

So it wasn't a great idea (although I kind of liked it), but it isn't as newsworthy as they are making it. I did really like the masking tape idea on the outside of the doors! :yay:

They did that at my school too. Well, actually I don't know what kind of tape they used or if they even actually did it, but there were rumors. Haha I never thought about using the vents though... :yay:

Much easier to use one unlit match stick. Place it in the door jam. When they open the door, it falls to the floor. The kid is none the wiser, and wouldn't know they'd been busted because it's so little they wouldn't see it fall to the floor. It's very easy to do a simple walk by and make sure the match sticks are all still in place.

Jesus! How big were those vents?:lmao:

:lmao: wtf are you talking about?

That's what one of the newsfolks was saying this am. How strong duct tape was.:lmao:

When I took a class trip up to NYC for my senior year, the chaperones didn't have to worry about us girls sneaking out. We had all the entertainment right in our room. We look out the windows and watch the hookers working and turn on the TV for the nudity talk show that was on. To a bunch of smalltown girls, that's all the entertainment we could handle.
