I know.. But aren't they awesome boys?

YES...

I would foster them in a heartbeat, but my yard is just not big enough.

Have you seen Red and Blue who look like lab/dane mixes that are in foster through SMAWL? They are brothers who were rescued from Hurricane Katrena and are awesome. They need good homes and are wonderful dogs too. They are house and crate trained. About 105lbs each and neutered. They would do well seperately as their high energy feeds off each other, but apart they are totally laid back.

Blue is currently posted on the Dog Classifieds.

have you ever owned a great dane? My boyfriend and I rescued a great dane 2 years ago. She was originally $2600, and she lived at a very wealthy family's home. They only fed her a cup of food a day, and she lived in a concrete kennel. needless to say when the seller came by to check on her, she took her immediately. She was the best and worst dog i have ever owned. I never had a dog that was so loyal, but she required so much attention that if you left her alone for more than 15 minutes, she would tear your house up. we walked her almost every day, and she was still spastic! our vet diagnosed her with separation anxiety (i never knew vets did that either)and told her we needed to put her on this new kind of dog ritalin. I could not do that b/c i don't think it's right. After she ate through my 3rd mattress, we had to get rid of her. We ended up finding a woman who had 4 great danes, and now her great danes bros/sisters keep her so busy she has no time to tear anything up! So hard to get rid of her, but glad she's doing so well. I hope your other doggies are up to the challenge!

Blue's ad in the classifieds says he is a lab/greyhound mix, not great dane.

The second one looks like Marmaduke! :jet:

I love Great Danes, they're such sweethearts. Have fun!

I was thinking the same thing.

I was attacked by a great dane when I was 6. I'm sure it was a freak incident, as every one I've encountered since them has been very gentle.

It may say that but I don't know any greyhounds that weigh 105lbs. And I don't see any greyhound in them. I think they look like lab/dane mixes. Take a look at their ad and tell me what you think?

The merle is very nice looking, but the fawn is just too sad looking. He wants to come home with you and a chew toy. :)

I agree that they don't look anything like greys (and I've seen enough greys to last a lifetime! :lmao:.) I thought that when I first saw their ad long ago...was just confused as to why they were listed like that..that's all! :howdy:

GREAT DANE! why? Because they are Great. She should fit in perfectly with our animal house :).
First and foremost thank you for considering a Dane to adopt but-just curious-have you ever owned a Great Dane before?
What are your expections of this dog?
Have you taken the time to educate yourself on a Dane's needs?
No harm intended and I'm not trying to start nuthin-just curious-from a former Dane owner. :howdy:

I spent the day today with my friend Ginny. She had 4, but now has 3 great danes. Wilbur, Dozer and Daisy. All Harlequins. Great Danes are great dogs, but require lots of time, attention and vet care. Just be prepared.

And a warning about MAGDRL. Ginny worked with MAGDRL in the past to place one of her dogs, Squeaky, who didn't get along well with her mom, Daisy. The saga of Squeaky is a long one but MAGDRL did Ginny and Squeaky soooooooo wrong. Ginny is presently in a very expensive court battle with the Northern Virginia chapter. Especially Beware Susan Hughes.

Good luck with your new dane.

I like the (blue/greyish) merle shown in the middle. Good luck with what you have to go through, process wise - but it's definitely in the best interest of both you and your potential new familu member! :yay:
