Super Genius
There are trucks outside working on putting cable in on my street. So, I might have high speed internet (and a wireless network) soon!

While they're there, can you ask when (or IF) they're ever going to get to my neck of the woods? Dial-up sucks. :frown:

We just got hooked up last week.

Do you have DirecTV or DirecWay now??

I got a GREAT deal, Expanded Digital Plus, 4 MBps Internt, And DVR (TiVO) for $75 a month, after the "buy back" for the DirecTV and DirecWay, $55 a month.

They'll buy back your DirecTV service for $200, and the DirecWAY for $100. Only gripe I hae is learning the new channels.. there is no rhyme or reason to their layout.

I have DirecTV. I refuse to shell out that kind of money for DirecWay.

Sounds like a great deal - wish I could get it. Maybe it's time for me to call the cable company again and rattle their cage.

that's what I did.. Bernie Weeks does the new installs, and the surveying for the neighborhoods. I called and e-mailed two or three times, and within three months they were here trenching in the cable.

GMP just got bought out by Metro-Cast, and they sem to be REAL willing to get new business.

and we probably wouldn't have done DirecWAY either, except the hardware was already here, we didn't have to buy anything.

If you ever decide to split your cable connection, make absolutely sure that you split off your cable and digital boxes first on the lowest db loss (usually 3.5db) split. Get a 5-1000 mhz 3 way splitter. Then split off your other TVs on the weaker split. In fact, put a second splitter onto the high-loss side of the splitter and put all your TVs on that.

So if you start with a 3 way splitter:

|
incoming line:
|
|
[]-3.5db ----- Cable Modem
[]-3.5db ----- Digital Box
[]-7db -----------------------[][][][] Splitter for all other TVs

Don't use a 4 way splitter until after the first split, don't get a 2GHz gold-plated splitter (waste of $$$) and don't get a splitter that plugs in (booster).

Of course if the cable guys do it for you, it's taken care of

:yeahthat: Had all kinds of problems(dropouts) when I first got online via cable, ended up buying a good splitter and split the cable outside and ran a direct line to my modem with the other line taking care of all the TVs. Haven't had a lick of problems since then.
