Having Fun!
Where was I.... I was voicing concern that tax dollars only be used for issues that are necessary for public sustenance. To spend 20 mil for a pool center in one breath and in the next complain that deep cuts are necessary or we will face a property tax rise is, IMHO, fiscally irresponsible. A pool is in no way necessary, and as such, those who use it should fund its existence. Im glad you are for it... and its definitely a beautiful facility. It just irks many taxpayers to see their money go to things that are true luxuries when many of them are struggling.

Never assume....it only makes an a** out of u and me.

I never said that I was one of those who were requesting it quite vociferously.

I'm the one that said I was for it, but I was never vociferous about it....I would expect a price break for county people compared to all others though.

It sure was talked about a lot and for a long time. Were you vociferously against it all that time? :howdy:

I for one think its a great idea. There is nothing to do around southern maryland for the children except for them to go find trouble or sit around the house being lazy and playing video games. This a great way for families to interact as a family. Usually all you see is more business' opening and more greety people trying to make a buck before the next person does. Its about time. Wasted tax money I feel is paying people to stay home and sit on their azzez and collect welfare and multiply more babies.

Nothing to do for kids? What about youth groups...4h...scouts...Parks and Rec programs, Ann Marie Gardens, places in Leonardtown, not to mention sports. There are so many activities for kids around here that its crazy!!!! I grew up in PG, and there were tons of activities there, but way more here....way more.

I'm sure this same place will offer swim lessons, competitive swimming, and if you read the site CPR certification. All of which would be great for kids too.

What a waste. I'm sure almost all of the lanes will be filled up with some kind of swim team in the evening making it almost impossible for the average person to just walk in and swim.

Just look at great mills pool. The only set aside 3 lanes for public swimming. What a joke.

All im saying is that it is very easy to spend other people's money. We obviously need police, schools, roads and the like. A pool, especially at a cost of $20 some odd million or whatever, is nice but not needed. If people really want it, let them pony up and pay for it (via admission fees to a private venture). The threshold for use of public dollars should be higher. The problem lies in that everyone WANTS nice things and noone wants to pay for them, so hell....lets just get the county to pony up. We can justify anything if you try hard enough.

Not everyone has kids, just like not everyone want to use the pool.

Somone without kids could make the same argument about money being spent on schools that you are making about the pool.

I swim at Great Mills just about every day and I have never had a problem getting a lane..and the facility is kept clean IMHO. Been going there for almost 4 years.
