Indy vs. Pats

You gotta admit that Bellicheck has balls. However, brawn doesn't necessarily win you as many games these days as smarts do.

That game was awesome!! I hate the Pats!!

And to top it off I had Manning, Addai, Clark, and NE's kicker.:yahoo:

Bellichick made the right call, they just didn't execute. The chances of Tom Brady and that offense converting on a 4th and 3, plus the chance of stopping Peyton Manning on a thirty yard field were better than the chances of stopping Peyton Manning on a seventy yard field. Both offenses were moving the ball at will last night, there's no reason for Bellichick to think his couldn't pick up 3 yards when they needed it to clinch the game.

Nope not the right call... Punt the ball... Make the Colts go 70yards.

The Colts had already pulled off 2 TD drives of over 70 yards in the 4th quarter, that each took @ 4 mins. There was over 2 minutes left, and they still had all of their timeouts. They easily could've done it a 3rd time. You have one of the best offenses in the league on the field, and you have to go 3 yards to clinch the game. It was the right call, poor execution. If you want to argue witht he play call, you might have a leg to stand on, but in the situation that was absolutely the right decision to go for it on 4th down.

Also of note, the Patriots since 2001 have converted on 76.4% of 4th and 2 or less, and against the Colts they have converted 75% of all 4th downs. The odds were in the favor of the Patriots, they just didn't execute.

Nah, not the right call nor the smartest one based on chances. The Pats make about 60% of 4th downs, an astronomical number for a team these days. However, your chances increase when you make the other team go the length of the field to beat you. You make that team beat you, you can't just hand it to them.

Bill Bellicheck got caught up in his scorned past. In 2006 he faced the same situation in the AFC Championship game. He punted the ball and the Colts drove down the field to score on that famous Joseph Addai TD. That, was a thing of beauty. However, it doesn't happen all the time, which is why it was a thing of beauty.

You have to punt that ball.

Absolutely not the right call even if you have the best offense (Pats 08), which still lost the Super Bowl.

You almost never go for it in your own end when you're up in points. You forgot to mention that the previous drives before your aforementioned ended in Peyton Manning interceptions.

For this game I have to say that the Pats aren't going to the Super Bowl this year. They're relying far too much on their offense when it is a three-pronged game. If they can't rely on their defense to win a game here or there they won't make it far enough.

No, he didn't make the right call and no, you don't have a better chance of stopping ANY quarterback in 30 yards than you do in 70. That's just silly.

He made a gutsy call, didn't work out.

:yeahthat: and I agree totally with his call. Manning was shredding the d late in the game. I'd rather be pro-active in keeping it out of his hands at the end of the game than kicking and hoping he's not Peyton Manning.

I don't agree with the call but, I don't think it is crazy for THEM to try it. Us, the Browns, butter fingers Romo, most other teams, not so much but, the Pats, sure, it's a reasonable gamble.

Of course, The Brett woulda made it.
