Inside the CIA's notorious "black sites"

"A key thing to remember in reading this is the CIA released him. He was innocent.

Dec. 14, 2007 | WASHINGTON -- The CIA held Mohamed Farag Ahmad Bashmilah in several different cells when he was incarcerated in its network of secret prisons known as "black sites." But the small cells were all pretty similar, maybe 7 feet wide and 10 feet long. He was sometimes naked, and sometimes handcuffed for weeks at a time. In one cell his ankle was chained to a bolt in the floor. There was a small toilet. In another cell there was just a bucket. Video cameras recorded his every move. The lights always stayed on -- there was no day or night. A speaker blasted him with continuous white noise, or rap music, 24 hours a day.

The guards wore black masks and black clothes. They would not utter a word as they extracted Bashmilah from his cell for interrogation -- one of his few interactions with other human beings during his entire 19 months of imprisonment. Nobody told him where he was, or if he would ever be freed."

Yeah well the CIA didn't take a knowingly innocent person, parade him on Al-jazeera and then chop his head off anyway! So the point of this rant is what?

Do you watch shows like CSI, Law & Order, or anything like that?
If you do, do you normally root for the cops or the suspects?

Just curious.

If it had been an innocent white male American would you think the same way?

The idea of our government having "secret prisons" is quite disturbing. We are going down a very slippery slope here.

This is America, not the friggin' Soviet Union for crying out loud!

There are many so called "secrets" that keep us safe everyday. Think about that the next time you are out running errands, or on vacation or anything at all thats just your freedom to do as you please. Some secrets are worth their weight in gold.

WE are the UNITED STATES OF AMERICA.

WE are not supposed to be locking people away without trial like the "oppressive regimes" we rail against.

WE are supposed to be the best example of freedom and democracy the world has, the shining beacon of hope.

WE have a Constitution that is supposed to protect our citizens from this kind of thing.

WE are BETTER THAN THIS!

I really do understand your point of view and would love to agree with it, but its just not that way and never will be. We need covert dealings and secret sites to take care of all the things you believe the constitution is supporting but as written is impossible.

And because WE perform covert operations, YOU can get on here and say anything you like. It's called keeping your dumb ass safe. :smack: :lmao:

I don't see them detaining chinese, Koreans, Thai, etc.... To the good men & women maintaining the "black" sites, I say:

KEEP ON TRUCKIN!!

You cannot fight people who have no morals, no qualms about killing children, no problem with cutting off the heads of human beings or blowing up a nursery school, people who beat their women, kill their women for showing her ankle, kill their sister if she has a boyfriend the family doesn't approve, you cannot fight these people with you hands tied behind your back.

Now I couldn't open this story so I don't know their source. Where did the information contained in the story come from? Is it factual? was the torture if any indiscriminate?Certainly we have prisoners who tried to kill innocents locked in Gitmo, they are living better there than they did in their own country with the exception of having freedom so they can kill again. Save your empathy for those who deserve it. If these prisons are so secret who is spilling the secret? I say find the leak and plug it. Plug it with 6 feet of dirt over the leaker. If that leaker is a US Senator , make it look like an accident, but plug the leaks.

A key thing to remember is Salon is not a news site, it's down there with the Huffington Post or DU. Secondly, the article never stated the man was innocent, he "appeared" innocent. Don't jump to conclusions.

This is asymetrical warfare against terrorists, not uniformed military of a state. They are waging war against us and yet some of our citizens state we should treat these animals as U.S. citizens with the right to appear in our courts, under our laws, with our lawyers representing them. When did this concept appear? They aren't selling crack on our streets, they are killing our military members in their own countries or overseas. Just because they are captured, doesn't make them instant U.S. citizens under our Constitution. They are treated better than POWs under the Geneva Convention, which is a far cry from the way our POWs are treated.

We are Americans fighting a common enemy. I may not like you, you may not like me. But whose side are you on?

Thats seems to be the big question these day Mr. Webb.

Who's side people are on. They use the freedoms America provides to support the people who would take these freedoms away.

This war isnt like the ones we have fought previously, where when the Armistice was signed ,the prisoners go back home and work again in their own countries, at civilian jobs. Most of these people have never worked except to kill or construct bombs or torture their own citizens.

These people belong to a religious cult that is an offshoot of a nutty religion to begin with. When they get released they have no intent to go home and find a job , they intend to go home and go back to killing. An Armistice in this case wont work. They have been fighting this war for a thousand years and will fight it for another thousand.

Life means nothing to them and Compassion is a sign of weakness. They would and have killed their own children in order to kill others. Then they cry out for compassion.
They take our funds for food and buy weapons while they go hungry, they cry for compassion, and mutilate and hang our military out for their kids to laugh at. They teach their children that we are unfit to live. Infidels . They dance in the street alongside a decapitated US soldier, and they want us to treat them with dignity.

People who ally themselves with these monsters and wish to appease them and treat them according to our Constitution are well intentioned idiots who will be the first to say why didnt our military protect us when they face slavery or death at their hands.

These are the tools and practices of repressive regimes. The fact the Democratic nation, and one that is supposed to be an example of freedom for the world, is using them in secret is shocking, and utterly offensive to everything the founding fathers ever stood for.

Yes, you would trade all your rights for so-called security if you could, wouldn't you?

Why not trade in your right to keep and bear arms? After all, if guns were banned and confiscated, there would be no fire arm deaths...

These trade offs may protect us from terrorists, but now we are no longer protected from the government.

Honestly, I think the Constitution is wasted on 90% of you people here.

There are many so called "secrets" that keep us safe everyday. Think about that the next time you are out running errands, or on vacation or anything at all thats just your freedom to do as you please. Some secrets are worth their weight in gold.

What is cruel and unusual about interrogating terrorists to provide for our common defense? And where, if anywhere, in the Constitution are non-citizens afforded any rights?
