Insomnia...

My bed is the only bed that I've ever been able to sleep on where I didn't wake up feeling like someone threw me against a brick wall, so I know it's not the mattress. My insomnia is caused by my inability to shut off my brain when I want to sleep, so I end up being a very light sleeper and never end up getting in to a deep sleep.

I was worried about taking something to sleep because my son gets night terrors and I can't be zonked out or drowsy when handling those. I just started taking the trazadone on Friday and last night my son had a nightmare (which is SO much better than a night terror) and I was able to wake up and comfort him and soothe him back to sleep without feeling like I was going to drop dead asleep at any point in time.

Have you considered seeing a Psychiatrist? May be a good place to consider. :huggy:

I have 4 kids, youngest is 3, with the Ambien I have no problem waking up in the middle of the night and not have that drowsy feeling.

I also wake up at least 3-5 times a night maybe more but I won't take meds for it. I have other issues that wake me up.

Xanax 1/2 of a .25 mg dose works wonders for nights like this.

What type of bed do you have? I'm looking for a new one that is comfy and will not shake my side of the bed when my husband moves.

I have the same issues that you do about sleeping lightly (although I don't believe I'm thinking, just a light sleeper. I've been doing neurofeedback to learn how to sleep deeper. It has been helping.

Anyone else suffer from this horrific affliction?

I've suffered from it for as long as I can remember... I wake between 3 and 5 times a night.

Although the doctor finally convinced me to take something to sleep (she's only been asking for the last 3 months I've been seeing her) and I only woke up twice last night, so it must be working.

Have a sleep study done - it could be any of several easily correctable things.

50 mg Trazadone.

I have used Trazadone for years...with out any side effects. My dose is higher, but I'm willing to bet my weight is too.

It is the best med to mix with my antidepression meds...which is why My doc chose it, but it is used for many reasons.

It helps me fall asleep, which is not always a problem, but more importantly for me...when I have to get up in the night (potty) I can get back to sleep. Before I would end up awake for hours. Now I get right back to sleep. That is the miracle.
