Restating the comments on having copies of your passport, phone numbers to the embassy for each stop on the itinerary, and calling your credit card company.
You mentioned an Ipad from work---be VERY carefull here. Depending on where you work that may not be doable. If you do any work for the DOD there are/will be issues with taking a work computer/iPad. Look into it before you do it.
DO NOT exchange any money until you get in country. Exchange rates are better. I use my ATM cards in country, you will get the banking rate on your exchange and not have to worry about the street rate which can vary street corner to corner.
Depending on what countries you visit look into the VAT tax. All persons traveling in the EU will have to pay this but as a tourist you are usually able to file a claim ane get this tax credited back to your credit card. Save all receipts, and using a credit card for all purchases makes this process easier.
