morning.

Also, my advisor made it clear that I can't just be making coffee and making copies of papers -- I have to do real work to get "Real World" experience.

And is your advisor going to go on job interviews with you and tell potential employers that she can't do filing, copying, or data entry because it isn't "Real World" experience. Real World is doing all that stuff, and the fun stuff also.

You have to start from the bottom and work your way up. You can't have the attitude of that I have a college degree, and doing that stuff is below me.

I myself have a college degree and guess what I still do tedious work as a senior programmer, because the job needs to be done!!

You have to pay your dues in any profession, be it making coffee, running errands, getting the crap assignments, etc.

 I am just saying what my advisor said. I never said I was above all that. But I have to actually do some work. I'm going to try Monster.com

The paper in Salisbury hires interns. A friend's daughter did some intern work for them when she was going to Salisbury. They wanted to hire her after she graduated, but she had bigger plans. I don't have any further info, but your could give them a try. You could also try the Tester newspaper which is the area Navy newspaper. Anyone who works at PAX should be able to get you a copy. The contact info is on the inside front page.

If you want an internship in Southern MD, try the local radio stations - 301-870-5550. I know they have interns all the time.

If you want something really cool, try WPGC - their office is in Greenbelt, MD - 202-432-9595.

Good luck!

I just got red for this post with this comment, "did god say it was okay to post that?". What a pompous ass. Try to help someone out and some jerk thinks it is bad. :loser:

Ummm...actually, it was Bowhead, and the girl called me on a Thursday afternoon, and I told her I could come in on Monday morning b/c I had already made arrangements to fly out to Texas that Friday morning.

That's exactly what most real world experience is... not doing much of anything.

As soon as you realize this you're fully employable for 95% of jobs, including statistician.

Welp, thanks for the advice. I forwarded my resume to a lady I know, who supports Public Affairs, so hopefully I'll have some luck with that. This week is going to be rough trying to keep up with email, because the dorm internet is still down and may not get fixed....campus is closed today, might be closed tomorrow and everyone is stuffed into a tiny computer lab where I'm at right now.

Janey: you are such a schmuck
cmdrfunk1: that sounds plausible
Janey: today really sucks
cmdrfunk1: false
Janey: it does
Janey: I had to leave my comfy dorm to sit in a computer lab
cmdrfunk1: what you need is an afterglow after incredible sex to carry you through the week
Janey: spare me the details

At least we listen to the board mommy instructing us to be patient with her.
