Both my son and I have the Motorola Droid, and they run like an old 286 computer. Want to send a text?? Input your message then realize your cursor hasn't moved because it's "thinking" then it types in 3 or 4 letters at a time before it has to take a break and catch it's breath again.

Hmm I dont have that issue with mine. Of course I upped the phone from the stock 550mhz core to 1gig... :killingme

DONE!!

HotSpotting with the ThunderBolt..

So far I LOVE it... the screen is huge, clarity is the best I've seen on a phone yet.. camera is awesome.. and it's FAST!!

HotSpot is free until May 15th, but may have to root it and see if I can do it for free.

Got the extended battery so the TB is FAT!! But without the Ex Batt it's not bulky at all.. and kick stand is cool, even if I NEVER use it.

Works great on my Moto Droid. Rooting is was the best thing ive done to improve this phone

SO the question would be,

I'm using Verizon's Hot Spot (free for now) and wonder if anyone is using the service and do they "break" the service now and then to stop people from doing things like playing Black Ops..

I don't think I want to pay for it if that's the case, and will probably root, and get the wi-fi app for it.

PDANet still works, so that's a bonus.

They're out to get us
There are a lot of different Android devices, and I would have to say that if he's a total nerd get him an Android.

I would stay away from all Motorola branded 'Droid devices and stick to HTC. HTC (or maybe Samsung Galaxy) has the best Android devices on the market today.
there are plenty of good Droid devices from Motorola. In fact, I would discourage Samsung phones if anything. Yeah, they're good, but they went with Bing. The Bing maps suck in comparison to Google, the Navigation isn't included, and overall I was really disappointed with this aspect (even though the rest was nice). SOOOOO happy I have a Droid where I have these services and they came free. They're incredibly useful. The rest is comparable, but the Navigation feature can be an expensive add on.

I haven't been this frustrated since writing code through a college's outdated server on a dial up connection, but the experience is the same.

After I get frustrated I get the wife's HTC Droid and I have NEVER experienced the same issues.

This is why I'm going with the HTC TB instead of the Droid X.. or the Droid Bionic. Motorola has lost me as a customer.

The Droid can be frustratingly slow at times...agreed. That's my only complaint with it. Also when I try going to the home screen it'll take awhile to actually get there. I love the features, but the speed ticks me off. I've heard jailbreaking will fix this issue though, but I haven't wanted to root mine unless I can be certain I'll have no issues whatsoever, including future OS upgrades.

Still does it on my rooted Droid with 1gig kernel
The CPU just doesnt have the grunt that it should have.

It would be even better if you could use its 4G capabilities. Don't know where your located but southern Maryland isn't getting 4G until 2012, so I've been told.

it was 1st gen. bound to have issues. i don't think they expected the upgrades to Android to happen that quickly and i think it ended up bogging down the phone.

4g in dc, tampa, san diego etc for where I travel is a huge bonus....

Secondly it wont be here in 2012, you are looking at 2013 before 4g hits here

I was thinking a LOT further out than that (if ever), so even 2013 is a bonus.

Do you get the buzz sound if you have the earpiece turned up to hi ?

Nope, matter of fact about the clearest phone I've had yet.

Well, let me ask, do you mean the speaker/earpiece on the phone or a bluetooth/ wired headset?

I wanted to get an Android phone myself, but the hardware specs on the iPhone 4 were, all around, better than any Android AT&T had on the market at the time... so I caved and bought an iPhone. Android has a lot more apps but I didn't buy an iPhone for 9,000 apps.
