I may have been mistaken. I think TS Lee later in September was the one that flooded Bortnik, although Irene did flood the bridge at Wayson's, as it also happened with Lee.

Isabel and Ernesto tore our island to pieces. Irene largely left us alone. Guess it was someone else's turn.

I was in Leonardtown for Irene. Just wind and lots of rain. I lived in Sandgates for Isabel, that was a whole other story. It looked like a bomb went off. No electricity, water or phone for 4 or 5 days. I remember the phone service was back on before the electricity. Good old landline.

I was hoping that Irene would take out a bunch of my trees, because then my insurance would pay for their removal. No such luck, though.

I don't know how your insurance worked at the time but most insurance policies pay for downed tree removal only if the three strikes an insured structure. House, shed, fence, car, etc. If it just falls in the yard, you're on your own.

That is what happened to us. Insurance covered some of it that hit structures.
We had over 40 trees come down and it was such a mess we has to get an excavator to come in and clean it up.
Forked out about 20K.

It was pretty bad and you guys definitely got the worst of it. Pictures I took 8 years ago when I ventured out afterwards:

Power lines shredded.

With 2 active storms in the south, I took advantage of the nice weather to roll the generators out and fire them up. One started 1st pull, the other 2nd pull, after having sat for 6 months. :yay:

I would have guessed you'd have firewood for a good many years but see in the pic it took a trip.
