Is a minor league ballpark really needed in Hughesville?

Call me crazy but methinks no on the ballpark. Why build a bypass to decongest Hughesville then build something that will generate even more traffic? Why squander tax payer money on this project when you have children in portable (trailer) classrooms because there is no room for them in an actual brick and mortar building? Just my 2 cents.

I think it's a great idea. There are many advantage's to having this in our area. It is a geat source of FAMILY fun, an excellent chance for employment for high schoolers, and an excellent opportunity for local youth to achieve a dream.

Now about the traffic, there won't be any. You probably won't even notice when there is a game. It's minor league, not major league. The stadium isn't gonna hold 50,000 people, it will probably hold 10,000 people and never be full:shrug: (I hope it turn's out great and is full though:banana:)

I look forward to this stadium so my kids can enjoy a great game and community involvement at it's best!

Of course it is not "needed", but it would be nice not to have to go to Bowie to catch a game. Plus who knows maybe it will motivate or inspire a local person to pursue a dream. Not to mention that the field might be used for other events when not used for beating the horse hide.

I can think of better ways to spend tax money,(schools, infrastructure, etc.) than building a ballpark. I don't want to sound like a dream killer but I do not think it is necessary. Besides, SMECO owns the land and they should be in the electric business not the real estate business.

The ball park can generate enough revenue in electricity in probably 2 years to more then pay for Smeco's plan to donate the land. The location itself is not suitable for building a school and the tax dollars from both income and sales can be used to pay for new schools and roads.

Plus, look at the MCI Center. 5 years ago the area was crap! Now it is booming. Where are the players and fans gonna stay when they come to play? Hotel Charles is right down the street, think they will possibly see a LITTLE increase in business? It's not just money directly from the stadium, all the businesses in the area will have an increase in business. I think it is a GREAT idea. Plus, the stadium can be used for other things when not in use for baseball (i.e. concerts, H.S. graduations). Think about all the jobs that will be created by the ballpark (concessions, souveniers, ticket takers, ushers, grounds keepers, parking attendants, etc. Think about the money that the PLAYERS will bring into the area. If they are playing in Hughesville, there is a reasonable chance that they will live in Southern MD, bringing their salaries (and income taxes) with them.
