I grew up with dogs living in the house, so I really have no problem with it. However, my husband just doesn't understand why anyone would want an animal living in the house. He thinks the fur all over everything is nasty.

For those who misunderstood - I was not saying the dog would be chained up. It would not be chained up.

Believe it or not, the beagles that my father-in-law has are far from just hunting dogs. Just because they live outside does not mean they are not interacted with - because they are, on a daily basis. They are happy and friendly and in good health.

I can understand why people wouldn't understand why you would have a pet if it's just "chained up" outside. I kinda think it's pointless too.

*sigh* I don't know. I think labs are the sweetest dogs and I think it would be nice to have one in the house, but I just don't think I'll be able to convince the hubby.

I think the best option, if I can't convince him, is not to get a dog at all.

I say get the dog and "DITCH THE MAN"

Get back to me when you've invested thousands of dollars in tools. Locks are only for honest people, and with morals what they are today, respect for other's property isn't instilled in a lot of them. My dogs are my security system. They have a full view of the out buildings. Don't get me wrong, I love my dogs, but that is what they are, dogs. They have enough room for exercise and get fresh water and food daily. They have houses with adequate ventilation to escape the weather and they get attention every time I go to that side of the yard.

I never understood the SoMD notion of having a dog and then keeping it chained up outside, all the while not paying attention to it.

It's probably not as bad if you have more than one dog since they keep each other company.

Due to circumstances that we couldn't control, we used to keep our dogs outside most of the day as long as it wasn't extremely hot or cold. DH thought this was fine. He built them a fancy-schmancy dog house and even put an air conditioner in there. But it always bothered me that they didn't get enough people interaction. As soon as those circumstances changed and we were down to one dog, I brought that dog inside. What a difference. The dog doesn't like to go outside these days because he thinks we won't him back in. He will go to the bathroom outside but watches us the entire time he's doing his business to make sure we're there with him. He doesn't leave my side and is awfully paranoid. Personally, I don't think I could keep dogs outside after this experience, even if it means not having any more dogs.

wtf -- air conditioning for a dog? not even all humans have air conditioning in their homes!

Excuse my. My fault. I DIDN'T read your post correctly.

I generally skim over your posts, because you have all the life experience of a tadpole, but you always have an opinion, which is more times than not, completely asinine.

And to the other ball-less wonder, yes, thieves do have guns, if they are robbing someone. Most midnight shoppers do not. The are looking for a quick heist to pawn, so they can get another piece of crack.

Since you know not of what you speak, STFU!

I know you didn't just start crackin' on Buddy Lee. He is extremely mature for his age...hell, he's extremely mature for any age. All he did was basically say he thinks it's dumb for people to chain their dogs up outside and ignore them. You responded with all your stuff, and he pointed out that his original point was toward people who (again) chain their dogs up and ignore them. A rational deduction to make from this statement would be to realize he was merely pointing out that he wasn't referring to people like you. All this Janey/Mig/Peanut nonsense has made people way to defensive. Damn.

My dog stays outside during the day. He gets upset if he's left inside and will normally leave a turd just to let you know how upset it's made him. My pigs are outside in a pen, which worries me in this heat, but they seem to be doing just fine since they have their own kiddie pool and plenty of shade. :yay:

So are you planning on going on a crusade to install a/c in all human homes before canines are allowed to have it?
I guess I am wasting my money, my 3 dogs & 1 grand dog live inside my home w/ac and also have their own swimming pool outside for play time. When they are sick I also cook for them. You know what, my choice not yours! When you get done stressing over what everyone else does or what they buy with their own money you will be better off.

Janey,

I pray that when you die, you come back as a pet that is left outside and have fleas and bugs eating your flesh. :huggy:

You are right, kind lady.

BL please accept my sincerest apologies.

It is just assumed by some, that ANY dog that is treated like a DOG, is being mistreated. Those same people are the idiots that refer to their DOGS as children.

BL, If we both make it to the Meet and Greet for Charity, I'll buy you a coke.

:peace:

Thank you nickel, for pointing out my error.

No apology neccessary. I was the one out of line. I attributed anothers red for yours.

I'm serious about the coke. I gave up the  and will be a DD if I can make it to the Meet and Greet for Charity, so that others may imbibe without the worry of driving.

Is it inhumane 07-27-2005 09:26 AM My dog is smarter than your child any day. I only hope you haven't bred yet so the world is safe from your retarded genes being passed on

WTF? Because you treat it like a child and it gives you a steaming plopper every day? Seek help.

I'll have you know that I and both of my children are of above average intellegence, so your dog may be smarter than you are, but not myself nor my offspring.

1. My kids don't lick themselves.

2. My kids won't eat anything that falls to the floor.

3. My kids don't suck up to some a$$hole just to get a snack.

Oh, did I mention that they are both reading 2 grades ahead of their classes?

AZZWIPE!
