There was a survey awhile back that showed that teenagers today have totally unrealistic views of themselves and their futures..doesn't that say it all..there are so many out there that believe they are God's gift...special people..and theirs is the only opinion that counts...it is because of the "self esteem" movement..everything in a child must be praised as "special" and "unique" that gives them a sense that the world revolves around them..and that naturally results in less manners and caring for anyone else. makes me sad.

I actually saw a kid at walmart throw a box of something on the floor in a fit..then when they picked it up and put it back on the shelf his mother praised him for at least 5 minutes about what a good boy he is..what a crock..my mom would have waited for me to put it back on the shelf..then whooped my azz.

sad.

F*** Socialism!
your mom was a patient woman.
I believe that there was a good chance that my head would have beat the box to the floor.

My mom would have uttered the 6 words that could put the fear of God in me and stop me in my tracks:

"Wait until your father gets home."

Then you would just pray that she would mellow and take pity on you before the old man came home to take care of business.

It was very effective - I don't think I was ever punished more than I deserved, though I probably did not think do at the time...

Problem with this is that most of the ones who cause the bulk of the trouble don't have a "dad" at home.

Bingo.

Of the kids that my sons play with, the ones with the most behavioral problems either have no 'dad' figure, or one who is rarely around and not active in their lives. Not to say that the mom's aren't doing the best they can, but hey, I can make my kids virtually wet themselves in fear simply by using a certain... "angry dad" tone of voice. Nothing like a good "oh crap dad is gonna devour my soul" to modify behavior, LOL. On the other hand, poor mom get's caught in a cycle of vocal repetion with increasing volume... stop Stop STOP STOP STOP *smack* Waaaah!

Hehe.

Of course, when I use that voice, I tend to get evil looks if we are at Walmart or whatnot... and that is fine by me, because I also get the occasional sh*t eating grin and nod of approval, haha!

I have good kids... so far....

I don't know how they do that, but just that voice scared the crap out of me as a kid.

Here's a good commentary. He mirrors my feelings on our narcissist society members.

There are many people out there, in all walks of life, who think they're more significant than they really are. Plagued with an exaggerated sense of self-importance, they feel entitled to do whatever they want, whenever they want to do it no matter whom it hurts.

Twenge recalled the student who asked her to postpone a final exam because it interfered with his plans for a birthday outing to Las Vegas. She also heard from a person who runs a company in Minnesota who said it was not uncommon for employees to call into the office and say they were too tired to come to work.

Interesting thing is that if you research on how the current generation feels about the newer generation, the comments are always the same, going back eons. No manners, disrespect, lack of work ethics and morals, etc, etc, etc.

I do however feel that role models like Brittney Spears and similar did spawn a whole new generation of the most arrogant, self-centered, narcissist kids ever.

Good point; I remember my grandmother reminding me of my manners on many occasions; don't want to lump everyone into the same group, but I think people in general are much ruder than in the past. Maybe I'm just more sensitive to it now that I'm older.

Not a day goes by that I don't think at least once 'What an azzhole...':ohwell:

"Kids these days" has been uttered by every member of every generation at some time, since the dawn of man.

No, it is not less civil. Just a change of station.

Liberal ####tards who thought Soro's and Moveon and Kos and Kill Bush movies and the whole Bush Chimpie thing were just the be all end all in political commentary and humor are now pretending to be serious purveyors of civility and right wingers who've had enough of GOP and liberal policy insanity are speaking out. Loudly.

It's kinda like being in a shop where the table saw people stop for a moment and suddenly realize how annoying the band saw is. They just can't hear THAT noise when they are being noisy but, boy howdy, when they want quiet...
