Is the Bay deeper since Isabel?

Ok, this is a stupid question, and is based on anecdotal observation, but I was wondering does the Bay have more water in it now since Isabel blew threw, or has it balanced out again?

I ask because high tide this year seems so much higher than in previous years. In Chesapeake Beach, the occasional flooding of some low areas near the Rod and Reel have turned into rather frequent events, and my own seawall seems to have wave coming over it more frequently than in the past.

Just wondering if there is some scientific explanation or if any studies have been done. I remember when the storm hit they said XX billion of gallons were pushed into the Bay and was wondering how long it took to receed.

It might have gotten shallower. Same amount of water would need more space and it's spreading out.

Thats Welsh for fox.
This has been a fairly cool and wet spring. That would increase the volume of water. Think that means fewwer jellyfish too.

The winds decide the tides, and rainfall. Rainfall combined with heavier NE winds make for super high tides. When the winds go west, things will even back out.

I drive across the Pax bridge at Benedict (I have for 18 straight years) and It is remarkable how often the docks at Hallowing point are under water. The shallow pool (Benedict side) that used to be stagnant and algae filled is getting a fresh dose of water every two days.

Now I know we have gotten more rain than usual...and it has been noticably cooler too...but neither of those thngs really explains why the river is 1-2 feet higher than normal. It has to do with perhaps more wind out of the south (jamming up the bay?). Unfortunately...nobody in Washington seems to notice (unless the wharf at Alexandria gets flooded). Who do we ask NOAA?

Must be spooky for folks living near the bayside cliffs! :ohwell:

Thunderstorms, high tides
The National Weather Service is warning that all this unfamiliar warmth and sunshine is too much of a good thing. It could trigger some thunderstorms this afternoon north of Baltimore, in Pennsylvania and out on the Delmarva Peninsula.

Oh, and those inviting bay waters are misbehaving, too. The continuing influence of "spring" or lunar tides will add a foot or two to the high tides today along the Maryland's western shore.

But does anyone really mind? It's gorgeous out there. And there's a three-day weekend on tap. Priceless.
