Is there a such thing as a bad dog collar?

Now that every one has had a chance to see, read and form an opinion, I will weigh in.

Looks are all ways deceiving.
That collar is a tool. Just like a gun is a tool.
The collar alone cannot harm the dog unless a irresponsible human is present.

true... it is a TRAINING tool... not a "collar" they should wear more than a hour or so...

flat and choke collars damage the trachea

Halti.. damages the cervical area if used wrong... i see many people correcting their dogs with the halti... :jet: wtf.. really

that photo is NOT from the dog getting a correction from the collar.... if it was there would be bruising and soft tissue trauma.... this IS from the collar being left on and the dog growing and becoming embedded in the neck....

if you all knew how this collar worked you would know (use your detective skills) that when you give a correction to a dog with this collar it will be given to the UNDERSIDE of the neck as the link hooked to the collar would be on top of the neck... seeing that the wounds are mainly on the TOP SIDE OF THE DOGS NECK indicates that the collar has been left on and is too small for the dog. these collars should never be that tight as it is only used for a quick and fast motion in correcting the dog... the movement should never be a steady pull... they are short small leash "snaps" that SHALL NEVER fully engage the collar all the way tight.

I agree with you, you basically just said the same thing as me just using more words. I was typing one handed while feeding a baby so my comment was cut short.

LOL thanks, I wish I was but some days I feel like I am just trying to survive without loosing the last ounce of sanity I have. Last night was one of those moments. I had spent all afternoon in the hospital with a 3 year old who had a dislocated elbow. The ER went on Full Capacity and the police brought in a dangerous person so it was looking as though we would never be seen. Right about that time she thought she was slipping out of my arms and went to catch her self and with the loudest pop in the world her elbow went back into socket. I decided to leave and follow up with her Ped and the ladies at the hospital made me feel like I was a terrible mom for leaving. Most days on the other hand life is great, My husband always says you have to have bad moments to truly enjoy the good :)

That's not a bad mom. That's being a logical mom. F* the wussies at the hospital. Logically, if you had stayed, the ER Doc would have told you, "Well, looks ok. Follow up with you family doc." and sent you out the door.... The good spirits just saved you a ER bill. I learned how to be a logical mom the night my son was playing Samuria jack in the living room, kicking and spinning around, lost his balance and busted his chin open on the coffee table. I was taking a nap before work. Beloved comes in the bedroom and says, "Honey, wake up. We have to take Boo to the ER." Man...I was instantly wide awake. I see my child, blood pouring from his chin, get him to the ER, wait for 8 hours!! He got 3 stitches, of which he SLEPT through..NO PAIN KILLER, No Numbing provided, he slept through it!! After that, I learned how to be a logical mom...

Ha, Funny thing is we are still being billed for this "ER Visit" Maybe it will be cheaper though because we only took up a seat in the ER for a while versus actually getting any medical attention. Once you sign in it counts as a visit even if you walk out immediately.

dont even get me started.....

This picture is very misleading.... THIS DOES NOT happen by using his type of TRAINING COLLAR. This happens by leaving the collar on for week and months as the dog is growing.

and this does not happen by swinging the dog around with this collar.

This type of collar is a training collar... to be used in a training method or used for corrections... THATS IT...

this is one of the SAFEST collars to ever use on your dog as long as you know how to use it.

I have used these collars for years and never had a problem. what i have an issue is the effing retards out there that dont understand how to CORRECTLY train their dogs and understand k9 behavior.

I laugh at the fools who are using the choke collars as those are the most damaging collars out there...

You beat me to it, spot on.
