? Good for what? Impressive specs for a high end PC, but what are you going to use it for? Are you a gamer, or just a web surfer? Cost? Where are you buying it from?

Specs alone don't make it a good or poor choice.

:yeahthat:

If you're just surfing the web and reading e-mails save your money and get a refurbished or "off lease" PC.

I was going to say you need 650W power supply minimum for that, but that seems to be covered. Newegg has good deals every now and then for (this is what i think they're called, i'm too lazy to double check) the bronze certified 80% power supplies. that means they're always at least 80% efficient at all power levels. It saves on the power bill and can keep heat down.

I wouldn't bother with the sound card. Any MoBo can handle good sound because you will never (unless you're transcoding video) peg the processor, so there's always power to spare for sound.

the firewire card is probably useless, but i really don't know what set up you have going. e-sata and usb3 from the mobo is fine for externals.

For gaming?

You might be better off going to gaming site forum and posting there. They'll offer up computer stats...even boast about them and how good the computer is lasting and offer up the latest buzz on what's out there to support your gaming addiction :yay:

For a top-of-the-line gaming laptop/computer, your probably going to spend more than $1k.

well, it seems the only real variable you have is what kind of graphics card you're getting. Since you seem to be bent on getting a core i7 2700k (which is fine, it's better than getting any AMD offering), look at some benchmarks and see what the best combination of price/performance you can get.

Slap an SSD in there! I frequently wish I had a faster drive in my PC as boot times and game load times are dependent on it. I built mine with a 160gb 10,000 RPM raptor drive about 3 years ago, but it still takes around a minute to boot.

Use the larger HDD that comes with the system as your primary file storage and install an SSD for the OS. You'll see a huge difference in boot and application load times:

in 08 I built a 'Gaming PC', using all 'kick ass' # 9 rated items from Maximum PC

4 yrs later this box ix running strong

Core 2 Quad 9550 2.83 Ghz - OC to 3.06 [save 300 bucks not buying the faster Proc]
GTX 280
6 Gb or Memory [crucial ballistix]
Sound Blaster Fat1lty Titanium XFI Gamer
Asus Striker II Extreme

cost me $ 2800 bucks with a Cooler Master HAF Case [the full height one] and one Dell 24 inch screen

you could go cheaper and replace it in 2-3 yrs ......... or go large and replace the video card in 2-4 yrs

this PC also [now] drives 2 24 inch Dell Displays - every game I throw at it runs fine ...... although the Video card is not DX 11 - due to age
