An AWOL machine vaporizes alcoholic beverages and blends them with pure oxygen or other gas, crating an alcohol vapor that can be inhaled. These machines allow people to inhale drinks as potent as vodka or absinthe through a tube into the nose or mouth, enabling the vapor to bypass the stomach and liver and to be absorbed through blood vessels in the nose or lungs, creating a quicker, more intense effect on the brain than if one were to drink an alcoholic beverage the normal way, according to the State Highway Administration.
You gotta be some kind of skidrow detox candidate to do something like this. I'm trying to figure out how I can drink more beer without getting hammered, and some idiot is trying to get hammered without having to drink. I don't get it.

I reserve comment until all the facts are in.. Don't inhalants generally give you a bigger high, but leave your system faster?

ie, you inhale a six pack you might buzzed to delirium, but you'll be sober in 30 minutes? I don't see that mentioned in the article at all.

If you can go to a bar, inhale 2 or three drinks, get your buzz on, then leave in 30 - 45 minutes to drive home totally sober, what's the problem IF that's the case? Like I said, the article doesn't mention it, so I'd like to see the research done before they make something illegal.

Currently, even children and teenagers can buy this machine off the internet for less than $300. Therefore anyone, any child can put alcohol into their system in a very fast and dangerous way. Additionally, multiple users can use this device which means saliva from the previous user will be inhaled by the next and subsequent user or users.
Currently possesion of aclohol by children and teenagers is illegal.
Isn't passing a bottle around tha same thing as multiple users swapping saliva?

Sounds like a gun control. Another law aggainst a tool.

Inhaling the alcohol would speed up the buzz, but it would have no effect on the ability of the liver to metabolize the alcohol. One drink per hour, whether inhaled, injected, or drunk.

But they say it bypasses the stomach and liver, some docotrs claiming it's dangerous becuase the inhaled alcohol goes straight to the brain without the aid of "filtering" by the liver.

I totally get it (other than the having to plug it in part )

Oxygenates your brain, no fluid, non caloric, won't feel FULL, etc... I skimmed the articles, but my guess would be a chemical engineering student came up with it. Unfortunately and fortunately, I can't see it being legalized. Perhaps some untouchables in Hollywierd will grow attached to the idea of the product as well as the underaged to college aged who will try to get as effed up as possible.

Yeah, that's true. It has a eerie feeling to it, too. But I get the idea.

When alcohol is ingested, the majority passes through the lining of the stomach and into the blood stream, bypassing the liver. As blood passes through the liver, the alcohol is removed.

With this machine, the alcohol is absorbed through the lungs, bypassing the stomach to get into the blood stream. When the blood passes through the liver, the alcohol is removed just as it would be when the alcohol was ingested.

The liver does not "filter" alcohol when it is ingested through the stomach, it metabolizes the alcohol once it is in the blood stream. The only difference is the method of getting the alcohol into the blood stream.

The liver plays a central role in the detoxification of drugs. Drugs and toxins are taken up by the liver, degraded and excreted. The liver acts as a filter and prevents the passage of bacteria from the gut into the blood.

What does that have to do with alcohol?

When alcohol is consumed it reaches the stomach
then the small intestine where it passes into the blood
stream. About 20% is absorbed through the stomach
and about 80% is absorbed through the small intestines.
Once the alcohol enters the blood stream it is sent to
and processed by the liver. After one drink of alcohol the
concentration of alcohol in the blood peaks in about 30 to
45 minutes and drops back to normal in about an hour if
no further alcohol is consumed.
The liver is responsible for converting the alcohol into a
substance that is safe for the body. There may be a small
quantity of alcohol that does not reach the liver – this
is excreted in the urine and breath. That’s why breath
analyzers are able to measure the amount of alcohol
someone has consumed.

There's a huge difference between vodka and absinthe. :eyebrow:
:yeahthat: I had some Absinthe in British Columbia, not the real European stuff but pretty damn strong and quite potent. It also cost $13 for a shot.

Yep, you watch. Some dumb college kid will end up killing him/herself with one of these things. Alcohol OD.

Okay, NOW you have my attention! :yay:

Alcohol prevents the kidneys from retaining water by counteracting a specific hormone (that concentrates urine). You'll still have to go to the loo more frequently than if you weren't consuming alcohol, but it won't be as bad as downing a buncha beer.
