Just like plate readers, the issue is less of the scan, but what happens to the scan after its taken. Although a simple button should suffice to "initiate the sale".

Do I beleive for a second they need facial recog just to wake the friken machine up? Of course not. And if the university and the Mounties had any sack, they would unplug one machine immediately and impound it for forensic analysis. I firmly believe they were selling the data on the side.

Taking a video of your face to match it to the card in case of a stolen card is one thing. Might or might not be facial recog.
