This is something that MANY teachers have been trying to point out as being a result of not holding students accountable for their efforts and work in school. We are ignored, and we are tired of being ignored. It's like standing beside a house on fire on the lower right corner, telling the fire department exactly where the fire is located, and then having to stand by and watch them chop down the front door of a house that is 4 houses away. At some point, you just get tired of trying to save people when folks won't listen to you. So, you decide to let them handle the dumpster fires without you because there are better things to do in life than giving yourself a concussion by beating your head against a concrete wall.

Results = Teacher shortage

That mindset will result in a police shortage as well, and it looks like it's already happening. Good cops, like good teachers, have other options than a career of being thrown in the ocean with their hands and feet tied. At some point we'll only have cops and teachers who are too dumb to do anything else for a living.

Exactly! And I would wager that Nurses are not far behind us as well.

I worked there and my school DID focus on the things that I mentioned, in between having to "parent" the children because evidently some of the parents were falling down on the job.

Because their parents were free range hippies - let's take the kids and live in a converted school bus, they were not raised as "children" but rather as equals, little adults. Unfortunately there is a huge difference between the brain of an a normal adult and a child.
Of course that's the science we are not supposed to follow.

if it were that they would just be intellectually challenged.
There had been a change for the better, I think there are people in LE that really do care, but there have always been bullies in uniform.
The badge and the gun were a power trip.
I grew up in a community where politics and that attitude came together.
The township PD (under the chief, who had the backing of one political faction) was in conflict with the duly elected JP or District Magistrate as I think they are now called. The PD had the 'black glove gang", officers that wore black leather gloves and dark glasses as part of their campaign of intimidation against those who were on the wrong side.
