It took a study to find this out?

WASHINGTON (AFP) - Adults living with children consume more fat -- the equivalent of almost a whole pepperoni pizza every week -- than adults who do not live with children, a new study has found.

The University of Iowa and University of Michigan health system study found that adults living with children ate an extra 4.9 grams of fat daily, including 1.7 grams of saturated fat. Adults living with children also were found to be more likely to eat high-fat foods and snacks

Gee! You mean parents are more likely to have fast food, snack foods, and other bad food items in the house and eat them if they have kids? Whowouldathunkit?

Only if you're a puzzy for a parent and let the kids dictate what food to eat... :coffee:

I don't think it's necessarily because of junk food or fast food. Maybe it's because when you have kids, you make traditional meals with mashed potatoes and gravy, rolls and butter, meat of some form. When it's just adults, they tend not to eat like that. More likely to whip up some pasta or put a salad together to eat on the fly.

When we had the kids here for a few days, we included the extra carbs in the meals -mac & cheese, corn, and so on... We also bought white bread, hamburger buns, assorted cereal variety pack, doritoes and sliced cheese.

On the whole, we usually don't do much in the way of carbs - only low carb, high fiber choices, lower processed foods and cheeses, tons of fruits and veggies and quality protein.

Both boys commented that they can't recall ever eating salad two nights in a row.

I'm stuck in my ways, so I didn't succumb to the pasta or sugar cereals or doritoes... I have always had corn here and there, but not regularly. Somebody else that lives here had no problem fitting in with the company's meal adjustments - so I can see how having children around can definitely make a difference! :yay:

You are right. Parents aren't more likely to have snack foods or fast food if they have kids. Not even more likely by 1%. Of course, if reading comprehension is not your friend, then you may have difficulty understanding concepts like more likely and less likely instead of all the time or none of the time.

:jameo: My boy bytches and moans about me NOT having white bread in the house

I would too. I don't eat bread much, but if I'm going to have a good old American sandwich, white bread it is. :yay: Wheat is just nasty. Although pumpernickel is pretty tasty. :yum:

Routinely Derailed
Both kids have been out of the house for 2 years, and we're still adjusting the diet to something more healthy. Seems odd to say that, because we thought we WERE eating healthy when they lived here - 3 square meals a day. We had meat 'n' taters, by jingo, and spaghetti and lasagna and manicotti and pizza and...well, you know. But the only "junk food" we had was popcorn. Mrs. Railroad and the daughter steadfastly deny that there was a secret candy stash, and those telltale wrappers must have gotten loose at Halloween.

(In the past year I've been getting more interested in salads and such because frankly, I felt like I was eating more than I wanted to eat and I weighed in at a scary 200+ lbs for the first time in my life. I didn't actually start losing weight until the last few months (I've lost 27 lbs so far). After January 1, I plan to start the South Beach diet and get more aggressive about losing weight.)

White bread revolts me and I'm tickled that the remaining kids only like whole wheat, rye, pumpernickle, etc. :yay:

Roman Meal bread is delicious!

Aside from this.... Martin's Potato Bread is great for stuffed ham sandwhiches.

Which I cannot get living here in Montgomery Village. :jameo: :jameo: :jameo:

I hate Roman Meal. I was forced to eat that crap as a kid. :barf:

I'm not a big bread eater anyway. I wish they sold it by the slice because every loaf I ever buy goes moldy. :ohwell:

Any time you want.
Pan lady wont even crack you in the head with a pan. All you have to do is tell me that Im a pig and should worship the ground she walks upon, and within moments she will honor you with your own pan so you can both crack me in the head should I say something wrong.
