I was renting a house and my landlady had a short well (not a deep well) and during the drought back in 2002 (?) it had run dry... it was a mess, the well pump burnt out too. She paid something like 500.00 I think it was to refill the well... everything looked great - well was filled then within about 10-12 hours the dry ground around the well actually sucked the water out of the well and left maybe about a foot or two of water, then she refilled the well again, same thing, she ended up having to pay someone to climb in the well and dig the well deeper. I moved out aruond this time but I think it helped digging it deeper. I had NO IDEA the value of running water and water conservation until I actually lived through it and not having water. Every little bit of conservation helps.
