I have a Red Heeler and for some reason this year her skin is soo itchy. She wont stop and her skin is starting to bleed from it. We have bought a few things from the store to help but its not working. I was hoping to fix it at home before having to take her to the vet. Does anyone know what I can try ?

Poor puppy :frown:

Add some bacon grease to their food for a few days :yay:

Vitamin E. Just break open a 400 IU capsule and mix it into their food. Works wonders. :yay:

Salmon oil with a good quality dog food. Some wet food this time of year helps, too, because there is more moisture in it than kibble.
Also, don't overbathe your dog.

I don't even break it open. Actually, fish oil is the bomb for skin. I give my pups vitamin C, E and a fish oil capsule with the breakfast every day.

I always get worried about giving her people food, meds or even vitamins. So the fish oil that I take everyday is ok to just stick in her food?

Vitamins are good for them. :yay:

Yep, I just toss the capsule in the food...they gobble it up.

I give both of my dogs brewer's yeast tablets. It had done wonders for their hair and skin. I give it to them as a treat after dinner.

:yeahthat: We started giving it to our girl w/ Addison's. She is a flat coat retriever mix and has skin issues every couple of months or so from the meds she takes and adrenal gland variations in the output of her potassium and sodium levels. She would start itching and leave raw marks, they would scab over and start healing leaving her itching even more. We started her on the Salmon oil just before x-mas and it has done wonders for her skin and coat. :yay:

I like it because it is formulated for dogs and tells you what to give by weight so I don't have to guess on giving her people stuff! :buddies:
