i have no doubt about that, i am just saying that you will be able to make a non-race based joke and have it taken as a joke.
Hell, SNL hit him pretty hard and i didn't hear 1 cry of racism over it.
as for the niggardly incident, if you are smart enough to know what that word really means, you are smart enough to know that many people will be insulted by it wether they know the real meaning or not.
What, that people are stupid, or that they need dictionaries? If I think someone is high as a kite, do I have to reconsider if he's Jewish, and might think I said something else?
I knew about David Howard, but I just looked up on the Internet, and learned there have been many incidents, and people lost their jobs, because they used a word that SOUNDS like an offensive word, but doesn't mean anything similar. The black hole one strikes me as hysterically stupid - that someone took offense because they don't know what a collapsed neutron star is or what it does. By now, most grade school kids have at least heard of it.
BUT --
The incident illustrates a point, and that is that people will take offense at something they perceive as racist, even when it is clearly NOT intended to be that way. And you can't anticipate how ignorant people will be.
Call Bush a chimp, and you just insult him.
Call Obama the SAME THING, and it just became racist.
Make fun of Nixon's nose, and it's funny - do the same with Obama, and it will be racist.
I guarantee, someone will comment on how skinny he is, besides Arnold, and SOMEONE will claim it's a racist remark. You will not be able to criticise his upbringing, his relatives, his appearance, his verbiage or anything remotely culturally black, like maybe his hook shot - and not have it assailed as a racist remark.
Admittedly, if his *policies* are ridiculed as naive or short-sighted, they won't be, but people don't usually lampoon boring details. They go for laughs. They dress him up as Muslim and put bandoliers on his wife, brandishing an AK-47.
